ILM Certificate in Leadership and Management What is the ILM Certificate in Leadership and Management?

The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management has been specially designed to give practising managers a solid foundation in their formal development in this role. This is a pragmatic programme concentrating on the theory, but also the application at Loughborough University. Specialist departments will be involved in the design and the delivery of certain units, making it unique to Loughborough and allowing you the opportunity to find out and question how things work.

What level qualification is the Certificate?

In terms of national qualifications framework (QCF) ILM Level 5 is equivalent to a Foundation Degree.

Who is the programme for?

This strategic leadership programme is aimed at managers from Grade 7 and above, however it may also be a good development route for: n Anyone in other management grades who have

a number of years experience in management and would like to gain a recognised qualification.

n Leading innovation and change

3 days face to face delivery, followed by 3-4 hours of online self study.

n People looking to move into more senior

management posts in the future, who have already completed ILM Level 3 or equivalent.

n Understanding financial management

NB This programme is not recommended for managers with no previous qualifications or experience.

Assessment Info

How is it delivered?

After each mandatory unit the participant will either be asked to submit a work-based assignment or deliver a presentation plus a reflective review.

The full programme consists of 7 units, completed over 2-3 years. In order to achieve the final Certificate you must complete all units, and attend work based assignments within 3 years of registration.

The seven programme units are: n Understanding the Management role to

improve management performance 2.5 days face to face delivery. n Making a financial case

1.5 days face to face delivery. n Managing improvement

1 day face to face delivery. n Human Resources Management

(Managing Recruitment) 2 days face to face delivery, followed by 8 hours of online self study. Plus attendance on the Recruitment and Selection course (further 1 day).

What support is available?

Each participant will have 5 hours of tutorial support, 3 hours of which will be conducted though action learning sets and the other 2 hours of which would be a on a one to one basis.

NB If you register to complete the ILM Level 5 qualification, we reserve the right to charge your department on a cost recovery basis if you fail to complete the requirements of the programme.

What we ask of you: Once registered you have made a commitment to complete the Certificate. It is your responsibility to learn and put what you have learnt into practice.

You will need to hand your assignments in on time and keep your line manager informed.
