Our results at GCSE and A Level show that we are one of the highest achieving schools in the North of England and we have consistently remained at the top of Hull and East Riding’s league table. Most of our pupils choose to progress to higher education, almost always to their first choice university. We also have strong success rates in entrance to medical schools and universities with a competitive entry, such as Oxford, Cambridge, Durham and the London universities. Situated just a mile from the centre of Hull, our grounds cover 45 acres of land. Within our first-class campus, we have a specialist Art and Design Centre, ICT Centre, Theatre, state-of-the-art Music School with individual music lesson rooms, recently refurbished science laboratories, lecture rooms and an award-winning Learning Resource Centre. We also offer a sports hall, gym, swimming pool, newlyresurfaced tennis courts and astro pitch. Our beautiful and historic heritage, combined with our modern facilities, gives our pupils access to a unique educational experience. The theatre, music and sports facilities are utilised by the whole school. Our curriculum is designed to prepare your child for life beyond school. It gives a comprehensive grounding in key subject areas such as English, Mathematics and Science as well as the opportunity to discover Humanities, Sports, Music, Creative Arts, Technology and Modern Foreign Languages. Our curriculum also helps develop key learning skills, such as resourcefulness, resilience, reflectiveness and team work. As your child progresses through school, they will begin to specialise more in subjects of particular interest or ability, having their own choices at GCSE and A Level. We are sincere in our commitment to inclusivity and care deeply about the physical, mental and emotional well-being of our pupils. Our pastoral care network across all year groups allows for individual care and personal attention. As well as supporting pupils through potentially difficult times, our pastoral support includes celebrating them through their triumphs, joys and victories. Children are made to feel secure in confiding with their Form Tutors, Heads of Year, our Head of Pastoral Care, Prefects, School Nurse and dedicated Welfare Nurse, and have access to a visiting professional Counsellor. In the Senior School, our buddy system gives younger pupils a Sixth Form student to support and guide them. Personal, Social and Health Education lessons also encourage pupils to discuss topics that may affect them.

We recognise the importance of communication between teachers and parents when it comes to tracking pupils’ progress. A formal system is in place which includes termly grade cards, academic reports and regular parents’ evenings. We also have an online parent portal found on our website. On a more informal basis we encourage parents to contact individual members of staff if they have any concerns regarding their child’s happiness and development.

Our community is extended to parents as well as pupils. The Hymers College Association (HCA) allows parents to support the school through organising events such as our Garden Party, comedy evenings, Michaelmas Fair and many more.

Both the Junior and Senior School have areas to lock up bikes if pupils wish to cycle into School. Pupils can also be dropped off and picked up by car at both schools in designated areas. We also offer an extensive bus service to bring Junior and Senior School pupils to and from School with two buses coming from the South Bank and a number of buses servicing the School from across Hull and the East Riding.

We have a full-time, highly qualified nursing team in our first aid room here at Hymers. This is located next to the dining hall and is accessible for all our pupils should they feel unwell or want to talk to our nursing staff.
