Junior Sport

Each child within the Junior School will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of different sports. Our comprehensive programme of fixtures ensures that every child represents Hymers College in sport. The provision of sport in the Junior School caters for all ability ranges. The principle aim is to improve the children’s skills from whatever starting point in an enjoyable and inclusive way, boosting confidence and independence.

The principle sports played at Hymers for the boys are rugby (Autumn Term), football and hockey (Lent Term) and cricket and athletics (Summer Term). The girls play netball and hockey in the Autumn and Lent terms, with cricket and athletics in the summer. Alongside these, we have a number of co-curricular clubs that run at various points during the year, including girls’ football, fencing, judo and rounders.

Our flourishing football teams have had many recent successes in local and national tournaments including the Hull Schools FA Cup which we host. In 2022, our U9 boys’ team became HMC Athletics Champions. Our U10 girls are currently HMC Cross Country champions. Our U11 swimmers have qualified for ESSA National Finals for the past twelve years and, in 2018, our dance group finished third in the National Finals of the ‘The Great Big Dance Off’ in Oxford.

Our U10 boys and girls have an opportunity to go on a one day sports tour before they move into Year 6, when the rugby, hockey and netball teams have the chance to particate in a three day sports tour.
