PORT PERSONALITIES

>

Brian Dandridge GENERAL MANAGER AT THE YARDS MARINA

How long have you been involved in the marine industry? Since May 2014. If you were not doing this, what job would best suit you? Either a news anchor or an English teacher. What brought you to Washington, DC? What attracted me to DC was the incredible history. Whether vising one of the many museums of The National Mall, the city is full of culture. I’ve also grown up as a huge DC sports fan, so that’s definitely a plus.

The Yards Marina

What do you like to do on your time off? Being outdoors, either playing sports or spending time out on the water. I also spend the majority of my free time coaching local youth basketball and football. Describe yourself in three words. Creative. Resilient. Optimistic. What are a few upcoming events for the marina? Something that we’re really looking forward to is hosting a live-action play. The play is a reenactment of Fredrick Douglass’ trip to Ireland exactly 200 years ago and will take place out on the marina’s learning pad throughout the entire month of May.

What is your favorite season and why? The fall because the temperature is perfect. The leaves start to turn vibrant colors, the air smells crisp and of course my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, is during this season. What is your favorite restaurant near the marina? Agua 301. Ask about the Guacamole de la Dia! If you ever owned a boat, what would you name it? If and when I own a boat I will simply name it “Escape.”

YACHTING AND CRUISING CLUBS If your cruising club is looking to spend some time in Downtown DC, look no further! With 52 slips, we can accommodate all sorts of groups, large and small. Our team will work closely with your club’s director to ensure that slips are reserved together and that all your needs are met. We will be happy to: • Provide online booking capability for your group • Make reservations for your group at nearby restaurants • Assist your group with special directions and recommendations for the area • Coordinate boat service with a trusted partner if you have trouble… • And, more importantly, make sure you have a great time throughout your entire stay!

SUPERYACHTS The Yards Marina offers direct access to the heart of downtown DC with 120 ft. of side dockage, making it an ideal stop for super yachts in the Potomac. Captains and boat owners will love being able to dock with ease, while they stay and play in the heart of Downtown DC. The staff at The Yards Marina will be on-site to help as needed, and provide guests with anything they may need while in town.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS • Nationals Park • The Yards Park events and concerts • 10 square blocks of restaurants, bars and retailers • The Washington Monument • Smithsonian Institution, National Mall and other landmarks a quick ride away

The swashbuckling party ship is part of changes happening downstream from his monument, where massive cranes are lifting heavy loads of glass and steel to erect residential and commercial buildings along DC’s riverfront. With the Washington Monument and Capitol Dome towering in the background, restaurants, arts venues and retail shops have opened their doors to welcome crowds of excited visitors. And local neighborhoods are thriving from the budding developments’ influx of culture, commerce and cuisine. If you want to catch a show, entertainment venues await — from a concert hall featuring national acts to pubs with smaller stages for acoustic guitar and the area’s beloved regional theater. Dozens of restaurants accommodate foodie wishes from fresh local seafood to sizzling steaks. Pick a hot bestseller at DC’s favorite indie bookstore, Politics & Prose, or browse around the strip’s boutiques and specialty stores including Anchor, a marine store that will deliver beer and wine to your boat. Amid the shiny new buildings is a must-see historic gem that’s essential to DC’s seafood cravings. America’s oldest open-air market, Maine Avenue
