Preparing for a time when there might not be a Springfield Dominican in the higher levels of school management, the Leadership Team of the Dominicans Sisters of Springfield asked the President of each of its sponsored institutions to work with the Congregation to establish a Board of Directors that would replace the former Advisory Board. The transitional time began in 2009 and was completed in 2011 when the By-laws of a bi-cameral model of governance were approved. The Member Board, pictured at left, retains the powers of the election and re-election of Directors, appointment of the President, and approval of major legal transactions. At the recent Collaboration Meeting, held on January 13, 2015, Sister Rebecca Ann Gemma, O.P. spoke of the spirit of shared leadership that exists between the Member Board and the Board of Directors. The Educational Mission of the Dominican Sisters at Marian Catholic is firmly grounded in Gospel values and enlivened with Catholic social teachings. This collaborative approach to leadership will strengthen the efforts of both governance and management.
