CONCLUSIONS DRAWN FROM AUDITING

+ Not only is devWorks difficult to find without previous knowledge of its existence or a direct link, but it is also not very welcoming to new users. + Home page is a bit cluttered & confusing and there’s no direction or explanations provided for newbies.

CONCLUSIONS DRAWN FROM BENCHMARKING

+ Successful digital communities usually have some sort of welcoming gesture and introduction to the site and its capabilities to offer the new user. + DevWorks should focus attention on garnering new users in order to establish a stronger community base.

CONCLUSIONS DRAWN FROM JOURNEY MAPPING

+ New users may feel overwhelmed or intimidated as they enter a new digital community. + A successful site requires a welcoming attitude and elements that pique and hold users’ interest. When do community feel like they belong? As a newbie, I would like to find a community with which I can identify. When do community members feel connected? As a newbie, I would like to gain followers/friends.

CONCLUSIONS DRAWN FROM PERSONAS

+ New users tend to browse a website to understand its content and use before committing to join the community (i.e. creating an account). + DevWorks could be better designed to accommodate this curious exploration and immediately showcase the benefits of joining the community. What are the characteristics of each type of community member? What are the characteristics of each type of community member?

CONCLUSIONS DRAWN FROM STORYBOARDING

+ Newbies visiting the site can see who is a trusted voice. + Gives a more logical flow to the community and brings more users straight to the homepage, not just from google searches. It also eliminates spam from the DevWorks community. + Newbies can see a logical progression into becoming a potential advocate for the community. How do community members engage in the activity given your design?

How do community members currently engage in the activity?

OUR GOALS
