In a previous issue of Our People, we highlighted Weidner’s support for three Anchorage-based organizations to aid people experiencing homelessness. At the time, two programs were fully operational, but the 3rd Avenue Resource and Navigation Center (3RNC) was under construction, and Weidner was funding the project. Nearly one year later, 3RNC is complete, and the facility has served over 2,000 people, provided over 3,000 showers, hosted nearly 40 partner providers, and given 850 rides for visitors needing transportation to other lifestabilizing services. The center’s mission is to address the complex needs of those experiencing homelessness by offering a wide range of services, from immediate essentials like showers and phone chargers to long-term solutions such as case management and employment support. 3RNC is unique to Anchorage and was modeled after other homelessness support operations in larger U.S. cities like Houston. What sets the center apart

is that it was created to eliminate two big barriers related to homelessness: transportation and trust. 3RNC’s holistic approach centralizes various services often spread between locations and provides visitors with trauma-informed care to foster relationships. The center was constructed to feel like a coffee shop where people can socialize, access resources, and work toward their path to reach permanent stability. Weidner acquired 3RNC’s building and funded the construction, the Rasmuson Foundation funds the daily operations, and Catholic Social
