OUR STORY
History
14
In 2018, we set ourselves a goal: to breed exceptional showjumpers. Essentially that’s the goal that every breeder has, but we aimed high and started to figure out what all these top performers have in common. We ended up with 3 markers that most stars share: pure performance, the ability to pass on talent to the offspring, and depth of performance in the damline & family. With that knowledge in mind, we went straight to the source. To Stephan Conter, where we managed to find and buy the holy grail for many breeders. Goya, a young and direct daughter of the unsurpassed Usha van ’t Roosakker and sister of several 5* Grand Prix horses. At Jos Lansink’s, we found a daughter of Ta Belle van Sombeke – a sister of Glock’s London. The icing on the cake was Contara, the mother of Chacco-Blue. Our breeding project had been launched.
Macha is a goddess of the Irish mythology who is often depicted with a foal, symbolizing the importance of mares. She can now be seen as the protector of the mares in our care. Since the start, the collection has already expanded to 36 mares. Each of the 36 matches the markers, some even score the maximum on all 3. The project needed a name. A title that would emphasize the pivotal position of our mares. The mothers of future sport horses, our MoMs, our Mares of Macha. Macha is a goddess of the Irish mythology who is often depicted with a foal, symbolizing the importance of mares. She can now be seen as the protector of the mares in our care. The genes and talent of our mares are now available to every breeder.

OUR STORY
Overseas allies At Mares of Macha, ‘access’ is key. We do our utmost to make the genes of showjumping’s best proven damlines accessible to every breeder anywhere in the world. To achieve this goal and meet the demand of breeders in distant areas, we have established long-term alliances with parties who share our vision. These ‘overseas allies’, as we call them, act as local points of contact and provide support in the

Spy Coast Farm is an 800-acre breeding and training center nestled next to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, US. The farm specializes in the breeding and development of top-quality performance horses and features a Reproduction Center, a Young Horse Development Center, a state-of-the-art Rehabilitation and Fitness Center, a CEM Quarantine facility and an Equine Education Center. Owner Lisa Lourie and her team strive to provide the very best and most comprehensive care available. They are strongly committed to improving the equine industry as a whole.
Doctor Alexandre Silva e Silva, known as a specialized surgeon, was passionate about horses since childhood. At the age of 12, he started to ride jumping horses. In 1994, he set up his first breeding farm. Over the years, Dr. Alexandre Silva e Silva had 2 breeding farms for sport horses, always looking for the best genes to improve the Brazilian Sport Horse breed. During his career, he made several trips to Europe to attend important studbook events and learn more about horse breeding. Through his extensive network with breeders, riders, reproduction centers and veterinarians, and as a sponsor of showjumping events in Brazil, he firmly believes that Mares of Macha offers the best solution to provide access to proven genetics in Brazil and contribute to the development of the Brazilian Sport Horses.

OUR MoMs
The MoM farm, Borgo la Caccia, is home to our mares who are available to breeders. Every one of them has been carefully selected and they all represent showjumping’s best performers and their families. We believe that our mares are the cornerstone of breeding and of our organization. Today, as well as in the future.
We’ve noticed that in recent years the importance of the damline has been continuously increasing. 34
Our 3 markers All of our MoMs have been selected according to 3 markers. Every mare outperforms on at least 1 of them, and some even achieve the maximum score on all 3.

STORY Arera C is one of Mares of Macha’s top earning sport horses. In her career, that lasted over seven years, this daughter of Indoctro won over € 900.000 in no less than ten international classes, seven at 5* level and two at 1.60m. She was ranked in a surreal number of 21 World Cups and 5* Grand Prix across the globe. She won the Amsterdam Grand Prix and ended 3th with the Dutch team in Aachen. Her competitive mentality, that runs through the entire family, led her to a placing percentage of 47%. This means that she won part of the prize money in almost half of the classes she entered. Her great granddam, Jacobin, by Ramiro Z, is the dam of Bart C, who was runner-up in the Lexington Grand Prix with Erynn Ballard, and 8th in the Harrisburg Grand Prix with Molly Ashe Cawley. the half-sister of Glock’s London, the double silver medal winner at the 2012 London Olympics with Gerco Schröder. Furthermore she is a daughter of Jos Lansink’s Grand Prix winner, Ta Belle van Sombeke, on her turn a sister of several mares that competed between 1.45m and 1.60m. One of them, Beauty-Belle van ‘t Roosakker, is the dam of the competitive 5* Grand Prix mare VDL Groep Eureka of Maikel van der Vleuten. HALL OF FAME
The Hall of Fame-MoMs have ended their careers as MoMs and are no longer available to breeders. During their well-deserved retirement, they either enjoy grazing all day on the vast pastures of our Mares of Macha farm, Borgo la Caccia, or they return to their ‘home’ stable where they are eagerly awaited by their owner/rider to let them spend their old age at home.
No longer available to breeders but forever wonderful MoMs to us. 108
CONTARA
Contara was a respected international performer under André Plath, but she really made her mark as the dam of the undisputed world-leading sire, Chacco-Blue. Today, Contara grazes on the fields of our Mares of Macha farm, Borgo la Caccia, in Italy. There, she is enjoying her old age in the company of her regular group of MoMs, receiving excellent care of our Borgo team.

MOLLY MALONE
Molly Malone and Bertram Allen won the CSIO 5* Grand Prix of Lummen in 2014.
WHOOPIE C
HALL OF FAME
Whoopie C has 3 offspring old enough to compete in Grand Prix, and all 3 of them do.
A month later, they finished 4th in the Rotterdam Grand Prix. Another 2 months after that, they won the holy grail for Irish riders in their home country: the CSIO 5* Grand Prix in Dublin. After a successful partnership, Molly has returned to her owners to continue her muchdeserved retirement.
Beijing Z jumps in 1.50m classes, Donatella H jumped the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, and Tobago Z is probably one of the best horses in the world. Whoopie C now spends the rest of her elderly age on the pastures around the house of Klaas De Coster, together with Reine-Fee.
Type performers. In early January 2023, at the age of 21, Oceane returned to her home base: Zangersheide stud farm in Belgium. On the Zangersheide pastures, she will spend her well-earned retirement after a remarkable career as a distinguished sport horse and MoM.
French-bred Magie de Menardiere was the French national champion of 5-year-old horses. She is the mother of the two 5* performers Queensland E and Winnetou de la Hamente Z. Magie passed away in September 2022. We keep the best memories of this beautiful MoM and believe that her fantastic offspring in the sport, both today and in the future, will preserve the wonderful memory of Magie.

STALLIONS
Our customers are the breeders. Their preferences determine the stallions we select.
Because of the fact that we utilize the ICSI technique, our clients have the opportunity to work with almost all available stallions, also with the semen of infertile stallions, deceased stallions, or stallions whose semen is very scarce.

Interesting to know The stallion Darley Arabian is the only stallion that appears in all the pedigrees of each mare, each MoM at Mares of Macha. Darley was born in Aleppo, Syria, on the 4th of January 1700. This colt was bred and sold by Sheik Mirza II to Thomas Darley, a wealthy Englishman and member of the British Consult to then Queen Anne, as a four year old in 1704. Darley’s father, Richard Darley, owned a stud farm at Aldby Park in England and Thomas Darley made it his mission to find a perfect Arab stallion to add to their farm. Although the Darley Arabian never raced and was only used for breeding, he was an incredibly influential sire. He lived to be 30 years old with Darley’s own mares. He died in 1730. THE MoM FARM - BORGO LA CACCIA
Welcome to Borgo la Caccia
Breeding starts with the well-being of our mares. Mares are the cornerstone of breeding. We keep ours surrounded by the best care, in the vast and sunny fields of the Lake Garda region in Northern Italy. On a self-managed property, Borgo la Caccia. The

climate
allows
year-round
grazing and the large individual stables with spacious paddocks give our equine athletes the comfort they deserve. This is the home of our ‘proven breeding’ mares — a place where state-of-the-art breeding meets responsible horse care.

THE MoM FARM - BORGO LA CACCIA
Setting high standards To bring our idea of a future-proof horse breeding industry to fruition, Borgo la Caccia – with its natural and open fields – turns out to be the perfect place. Where we and our team of experts can always put the well-being of the mares first. Along with the natural conditions of the region, Borgo la Caccia offers all the facilities that meet our standards to animate our vision. As we had envisioned from the beginning: “we want to create a place where we would entrust our own horses to”. We didn’t want to settle for less and moved to Northern italy.
124
Borgo la Caccia offers all the facilities that meet our standards to animate our vision. A 5* heaven for mares The extensive grasslands of Northern Italy make the ideal environment for our mares to live comfortably. As a former breeding stable and a vineyard with a legacy, Borgo la Caccia in Pozzolengo offers idyllic Mediterranean fields. Spread over 74 acres of land, available to our mares exclusively. The mild weather conditions of the Lake Garda region allow our mares to enjoy nature longer. They spend their time outside during cool mornings and afternoons. When the sun peaks, the trees and the outdoor stables provide enough shade.

The right infrastructure In the main stable area of Borgo la Caccia, you’ll find two adjacent stable complexes with individual stall boxes for every mare. All of these stall boxes are spacious. They are equipped with a large frame on the interior and an open stable window on the exterior, which helps to capture sunlight optimally. Piles of fresh straw and hay are always there. Besides all of the above, Borgo la Caccia also has an in-house examination and scanning box, washing stations and solaria. This way, routine checks and grooming appointments can perfectly take place on site. Around the stables of Borgo La Caccia, you’ll find 15 paddocks. With a size of about 5 acres each, they offer our mares ample space to run and rest. Every paddock holds a shelter, strategically oriented to protect the horses from the sun and the weather elements during all seasons.
We keep our mares surrounded by the best care, in the vast and sunny fields of Northern Italy. On a self-managed property. Where the mares decide At Borgo la Caccia, we aim to create daily routines that feel natural to the horses. That is why we want our mares to graze outside most of the time. Nevertheless, our team makes sure they always have access to their own individual boxes. And if specific situations emerge, they spend as much time inside the complex as necessary. As social creatures with unique personality traits, horses are a lot like people. Most of them enjoy the company of others. Our paddocks are spacious enough to accommodate up to 5 mares grazing together. Our team takes time to listen, and to understand our mares and their particular needs. We observe and study them. Figuring out which horses like to be together, so we can place them in the same paddock. Taking the time to know and respect them is the foundation of our work — our mares get to choose their group.

Our team of experts
Staff of Borgo la Caccia The staff of Borgo la Caccia includes an in-house veterinarian and a stable manager, who check on our mares every day. Our team of 6 stable workers is responsible for the feeding, the maintenance of the stables and paddocks, and the group interactions. They spend most of their time out in the fields with our MoMs.
Nutritionist Our nutritionist tracks the weight of each mare on a monthly basis and creates a diet adapted to their specific health requirements. These diets include roughage like hay and grass, supplemented with our personal breeding mix, vitamins and minerals.
Farrier Because of their background, many mares feel better with hoof shoes. A professional farrier, who visits all the mares several times a month, is also part of our team of experts at Borgo la Caccia.
Dentist Each year the dentist team comes to visit for our mares’ dental checkup.
128
Our team takes time to listen and to understand our mares and their particular needs.
Making it personal Many mares, especially those who were part of the world of equine competitions, are used to special care. Anticipating their future needs, professional grooms perform ‘beauty treatments’ every month. During each session, mares are brushed, manes are trimmed, and hoofs are groomed. Recurrent visits by experts and our staff’s 24/7 availability result in a personal bond between our staff and the mares. And enable action without delay.

THE MoM FARM - BORGO LA CACCIA
Our approach to breeding We strive for an optimal balance between well-being and reproduction. We pursue this by choosing state-of-the-art OPU and ICSI techniques. Borgo la Caccia is strategically located near Avantea, the laboratory that is the European leader in farm animal reproduction, and highly regarded in the field of assisted equine breeding. To decrease the impact of traveling, we arrange a weekly scanning at our main stable. The mares are checked by our in-house veterinarian and go to Avantea for an OPU session only when the time is right. No more than 6 OPU sessions per mare are organized annually, and only during a time period between October and May.
We strive for an optimal balance between well-being and reproduction. 130

Peder Fredricson — Sweden Reigning Olympic Champion in the team competition Owner of Flip’s Little Sparrow & partner of Mares of Macha
They get a perfect life, a nice climate, big fields. Very horse-friendly!
Following her retirement from the sport, Flip’s Little Sparrow joined the Mares of Macha herd in Italy. Peder Fredricson enlightened us on the two main motives behind the decision to entrust Flip to us. “We went into a partnership with Mares of Macha for two reasons. It’s a great way to retire a horse. They get a perfect life, a nice climate, big fields. Very horse-friendly! And then obviously the breeding is also very interesting. You can match the best horses, the best stallions in the world with the world’s best mares.”

Agoston Gubicza & Alexandra Sonnevend — Hungary Investment banking, private equity Owners of Scuderia SA & customers of Mares of Macha
We were able to collect probably the best genetics in the world.
Agoston Gubicza and his wife Alexandra Sonnevend, great customers from the early beginnings, are very important for Mares of Macha. As breeders with a clear vision and ambition, their engagement serves as a critical touchstone for our activities and services. Needless to say, we were deeply grateful to hear Agoston express his appreciation for our collaboration. A partnership he described as transparent and respectful. “Mares of Macha fully understands our needs as breeders”, he emphasized. “Thanks to Mares of Macha, we have been able to collect probably the best genetics in the world. This helps us to guarantee the continuation and further growth of our breeding and showjumping stable for the future.”

Ton van Tilburg — the Netherlands Entrepreneur & breeder at heart Owner of v. Tilburg Horses & customer of Mares of Macha
The philosophy that everyone, including ‘the common man’, has access and can buy an embryo, that I love! Ton confided in us that, a few years ago, he felt the need to take his breeding program up a notch to remain relevant in the modern showjumping industry. However, his pursuit of the best bloodlines was fraught with obstacles. “Despite my persistence, it turned out to be almost impossible to get my hands on a mare with such strong pedigree”, he recounted. For this reason ‘getting to know Mares of Macha’ filled him with great joy. “From the very beginning, Mares of Macha felt like the ideal party to me. The philosophy that everyone, including ‘the common man’ has access and can buy an embryo, that I love!” At this moment, several foals, yearlings and young horses are grazing in the v. Tilburg pastures. Among them we see MoM offspring of Carlina, Sancha, Funky and others. All of this to the delight of Ton and his family.

Dani G. & Alan Waldman — Israel & US 5* Grand Prix couple with a vision Owners of Carisma & partners of Mares of Macha
The mares get a better chance in breeding and a better quality of life! In 2021, Dani G. and Alan partnered with Mares of Macha, entrusting their championship horse, Carisma, to us. “Mares of Macha is doing things even better than we can. The mares get a better chance in breeding and a better quality of life. For me, they check all the boxes”, Alan shared during an interview. “The partnership not only grants other people access to exceptional mares, but also improves the prospects of these mares in breeding. Their offspring are sent around the world, where they are given the chances to develop to their full potential. Living in Italy, the mares also enjoy a better quality of life. And all practical aspects of breeding are efficiently managed on their behalf.” Soon, Carisma will join the Hall of Fame MoMs and spend her retirement at the MoM farm in the company of her trusted MoM herd. We look back on an utmost pleasant and fruitful collaboration with the Waldman family and hope this may continue for a long time to come.

Noe Benlamine Diaz — Peru Talented showjumping rider Breeder & customer of Mares of Macha
I finally got the chance to have a ‘first-line’ offspring from those renowned damlines. Noe Benlamine Diaz is a talented young showjumper with a keen insight into breeding. A few years ago, after losing his competition horse, he embarked on a search for new equine prospects to continue his sports career. He noticed that the international competition horses who intrigued him most, could all be traced back to strong damlines. Enriched with this understanding, he continued his quest. And was eventually led to Mares of Macha. “Thanks to Mares of Macha, I finally got the chance to have ‘first-line’ offspring from those renowned damlines”, he substantiated during an interview last summer. He also praised the transparency and convenience he experienced as a customer. “They even helped me find and organize a rearing and training stable in Belgium, where they take care of my foals while I am in Peru.” Noe has been a loyal customer of Mares of Macha for 3 years now, and continues to do so to this day.

Susanne Tovek — Sweden Mother of the two top equestrians, Evelina & Isabella Tovek Owner of Toveks Mary Lou & Dalila de la Pomme & partner of Mares of Macha
100% trust, professionality and perfect life.
At the end of the year 2021, Toveks Mary Lou was welcomed by the Mares of Macha herd. In 2023, Dalila de la Pomme joined the group as well. Susanne Tovek summed up her collaboration with Mares of Macha in the following three terms: 100% trust, professionality and perfect life. She expressed her complete confidence in the Mares of Macha team, appreciating the highly professional care her mares receive in the vast and stunning surroundings of Borgo la Caccia. “Klaas (Klaas De Coster, CEO) is always prompt in communication. From the moment he even suspects that there is something we need to know, he immediately grabs his phone to give an update on our mares and the events at Borgo la Caccia. This partnership feels like the perfect match for both, us and our mares.”
