The dramatic action film DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES starts its run at The Rising Sun this week. From all reviews it is quite a movie – and very worth watching. Also continuing is JERSEY BOYS, the spectacular film version of the top Broadway stage
DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.

Daffodil Day is about more than just flowers, as Cancer Council Queensland Relay For Life Coordinator Courtney Sullivan explains.
TINKERBELL PIRATE FAIRY Wed 30th 11.00am Thur 31st 5.30pm Fri 1st August 5.30pm Sat 2nd 11.00am Sun 3rd 1.30pm
A timely reminder
The countdown to August is on – Daffodils are in bloom and Queenslanders are brightening up the Sunshine State by spreading around a dash of yellow and plenty of hope! Daffodil Day (August 22), comes as a timely reminder to show our support to Queenslanders affected by cancer. A small gesture, like wearing a pin on Daffodil Day, purchasing merchandise, or volunteering, can make a big difference to those people in our community who are going through a cancer journey – by showing they are not alone in the fight. The daffodil is the international symbol of hope for those touched by cancer, as it blooms at the end of winter and heralds the return of spring, vitality and growth. Your support helps grow that much needed hope and enables Cancer Council Queensland to continue their ongoing work in regional communities and provide life-changing services like counselling, support groups, and financial assistance during a diagnosis. Sadly, nearly 1200 people will be diagnosed with cancer in Far North Queensland this year – and it’s up to us as a community, to show we care.

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Thur 31st 11.00am, 8.00pm Fri 1st & Sat 2nd August 2.00pm, 7.30pm Sun 3rd 11.00am, 6.30pm Mon 4th to Wed 6th 11.00am, 8.00pm
Daffodil Day is about so much more than a bunch of flowers, it’s about pledging to fight back against cancer. Another way to do that is by taking part in the many community events we offer, including Relay For Life. Every step taken at Relay, and every dollar raised gives hope for better treatments, hope for more survivors, and hope for a cancer free future. Participating might only seem like a small gesture, like buying a daffodil, but it means the world to those who are in need of your support. With less than two months to go until Tablelands Relay For Life, I encourage you to gather your friends and family and register a team. Taking part in Relay For Life is an experience you won’t regret - not only will you enjoy a weekend or entertainment and laughter, but you can walk away knowing your support has made all the difference. Cancer Council Queensland’s Tablelands Relay For Life will be held on September 13-14 at Davies Park, Mareeba. To register visit relayforlife.org.au or phone Cancer Council’s Fundraising Hotline 1300 65 65 85.

However, in the midst of their pursuit of Zarina, Tink's world is turned upside down. She and her friends find that their respective talents have been switched and they have to race against time to retrieve the Blue Pixie Dust and return home to save Pixie Hollow.
TRANSFORMERS – AGE OF EXTINCTION
After the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons that leveled Chicago, humanity thinks that all alien robots are a threat. So Harold Attinger, a CIA agent, establishes a unit whose sole purpose is to hunt down all of them. But it turns out that they are aided by another alien robot who is searching for Optimus Prime. Cade Yeager, a "robotics expert", buys an old truck and upon examining it, he thinks it's a Transformer. When he powers it up, he discovers it's Optimus. Later, men from the unit show up looking for Optimus. He helps Yeager and his daughter escape but are pursued by the hunter. They escape and Yeager learns from technology he took from the men that a technology magnate and defence contractor named Joshua Joyce is part of what's going on, so they go to find out what's going on.
