What lurks below the surface? ATHERTON INTERNATIONAL CLUB
THE SHALLOWS is the new film on screen this week at Mareeba's Rising Sun Cinema. In the same vein as the hugely successful Jaws, this is the dramatisation of one women's survival against one of the most feared monsters of the ocean – the great white shark. Nail biting and tense, this movie was made at Village Roadshow studios on the Gold Coast, with many of the outdoor locations shot in the same area. Continuing this week is the epic Roman drama BEN HUR and the entertaining comedy BAD MOMS, with an all star cast that includes Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis and Christina Applegate.
THE SHALLOWS
In the taut thriller The Shallows, when Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing on a secluded beach, she finds herself on the feeding ground of a great white shark. Though she is stranded only 200 yards from shore, survival proves to be the ultimate test of wills, requiring all of Nancy's ingenuity, resourcefulness and fortitude.
BEN HUR
The epic story of Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston), a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother, an officer in the Roman army. After years at sea, Judah returns to his homeland to seek revenge, but finds redemption.
