All statistical information, along with an archive of the entire season’s game stories, game notes and press releases, can be found there. The site is hosted by PrestoSports. INTERVIEW REQUESTS
Interviews with Gardner-Webb women’s lacrosse student-athletes and coaches must be scheduled directly through the Gardner-Webb Media Relations Office by contacting Whitney Noble. Requests must be made at least 24 hours in advance (48 hours is preferred). Practices are generally closed to the media, however, special accommodations can be made upon request and subsequent approval by the coaching staff. While telephone interviews with local media members are permitted, in-person interviews with student-athletes and coaches are recommended and encouraged. SPANGLER STADIUM
The Gardner-Webb women’s lacrosse team plays all its home games in Spangler Stadium on the Gardner-Webb campus. The facility is located in the southwest corner of campus on Stadium Drive. Parking for working media is available in the lot adjacent to the stadium.
GAME DAY SERVICES
The Gardner-Webb Media Relations Office will provide rosters of both teams, statistics and media guides to accredited media members for each home contest. Complete statistics and game books will be available following each game. Media wishing to file stories after the game may do so in the press box or in the GWU Media Relations Office, located in the LYCC. PHOTOGRAPHERS
As prescribed in NCAA and Big South guidelines, working photographers will be limited to the areas designated behind the end zones and along the sideline opposite the team benches. Space does not allow for freelancers. Photographers who wish to cover GWU home lacrosse games must apply for credentials via the guidelines set forth by the Gardner-Webb Media Relations Office. GARDNER-WEBB ON THE RADIO
Select Gardner-Webb home lacrosse games will be broadcast on WGWG.org. Fabian Fuentes will resume his play-by-play duties this season. POST-GAME INTERVIEWS
Gardner-Webb head coach Jillian Krick and requested student-athletes can be made available for interviews in the GWU Football Center following a brief cooling off period. If requested, opposing coaches and student-athletes will be available to the media in the GWU Football Center prior to Gardner-Webb’s arrival. To request post-game interviews with specific players, contact Whitney Noble during the second half of the game. The Gardner-Webb locker room is closed to the media both at home and on the road. HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS
High speed internet access at home Gardner-Webb lacrosse games is available through a wireless signal. The wireless connection is available in the Spangler Stadium press box. To use the wireless connection, join the unsecured network “GWUguest” then launch your web browser. Access will be granted following a brief authentication process. Should you encounter technical difficulties, contact a member of the GWU Media Relations staff and he/she will be happy to assist you.
MEDIA CREDENTIALS
All working media requiring a pass to GardnerWebb women’s lacrosse games, both home and away, must contact Whitney Noble at least 48 hours prior to the requested contest in order to guarantee entrance to the arena. All requests must be made via email or by phone. Working media with special needs or requests are advised to contact Whitney Noble prior to game day.

UNIVERSITY Gardner-Webb’s journey from a boarding high school to a thriving regional University is marked by remarkable growth, great determination, and unyielding perseverance. In 1903, the Kings Mountain and Sandy Run Baptist Associations conceived a vision of an institution of learning where young students would enjoy “the best possible educational advantages under distinctive Christian influence.” On December 2, 1905, the Boiling Springs High School, Gardner-Webb’s predecessor, was chartered. Even today, the University’s relationship with area churches is still strong. The institution was transformed into a junior college in 1928, and only survived the catastrophic Great Depression through God’s providential grace and the tireless efforts of numerous trustees and local champions of Christian education. Then in 1942, North Carolina Governor and Shelby native O. Max Gardner began devoting time and energy toward strengthening and guiding the College. In recognition of his efforts, those of his wife, Fay Webb Gardner, and their families, the school’s name was changed to GardnerWebb College. After World War II, the College experienced steady physical growth and academic development. New buildings sprang up, enrollments increased, and by the end of the 1960s, the College was ready to transition to a four-year institution. In 1971, Gardner-Webb earned its full accreditation as a senior college, and nine years later it began offering its first master’s degree in education.

PRESIDENT FURMAN, 1969 11TH YEAR
Born in Durham, North Carolina, Dr. A. Frank Bonner grew up in Greenville, South Carolina. The son of Francis Wesley Bonner (deceased) and Nilaouise Carnes Bonner, he was raised in a college environment, almost literally in the shadows of the campus of Furman University (Greenville, S.C). His father retired from Furman as Vice President and Provost, having served Furman for over thirty years as professor and, eventually, as chief academic officer. Bonner’s parents instilled in him the values he still holds dear. To this day, his father is his model for everything that a teacher, academic leader, and university administrator should be. Bonner graduated in 1969 from Furman with a B.A. degree in English. Coincidentally, his major professor was Dr. Phil L. Elliott, son of the legendary president of Gardner-Webb from 1943 until 1961, Phillip Lovin Elliott. After Furman, Bonner earned the M.A. from the University of Georgia in 1971, and the Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1977. His specialty is Victorian literature, primarily the poetry of Alfred Tennyson, and eighteenth-century British literature, with a special interest in Jonathan Swift. In 1974, Bonner began his academic career as a faculty member at Anderson University in Anderson, South Carolina. He was particularly active in civic life in Anderson, most notably as chairman of the Board of Trustees for Anderson County School District Five. Bonner was assigned various administrative responsibilities at Anderson and, immediately prior to coming to Gardner-Webb, was Associate Dean for Special Programs. In 1987, Bonner came to Gardner-Webb as Vice President for Academic Affairs. His role later evolved into Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and then Provost and Senior Vice President. He was named President in May 2005 and took office on July 1. Bonner has been heavily involved in accreditation work through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), serving on more than thirty accreditation committees, most of those as the committee chair. He is a member of the SACSCOC Board of Trustees and serves on the Compliance and Reports Committee. He has also served on the nominating committee for the Commission on Colleges and has chaired four NCAA Division I Recertification visiting committees. Bonner is currently Vice President of the Big South Conference, Chair of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Baptist Colleges and Universities, and a member of the Executive Committee of the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities. While at Gardner-Webb, Bonner has remained active in civic affairs, currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Boy Scouts of America Piedmont Council. He is a past chair of the Cleveland County Chamber, a Rotary past President, a Paul Harris Fellow, and he has been a board member for numerous organizations. He is a member of First Baptist Church, Shelby, where he teaches Sunday School and serves as a Deacon. After twenty-two years in the United States Army Reserve, Bonner retired at the rank of Colonel. Bonner is married to Florence Dell (Flossie) Black of Chester, South Carolina, also a Furman graduate. She is a retired high school mathematics teacher. They have two daughters, Alison Bonner Dalton of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Florence Bonner Crawford of Fort Myers, Florida. The Bonners have six grandchildren.

Gardner-Webb alumnus Chuck Burch is in his 19th year as Vice President for Athletics and his 32nd year in athletics administration. The Charlotte, N.C., native spearheaded the Runnin’ Bulldogs move into Division I athletics, which resulted in GardnerWebb’s addition to the Big South Conference as an associate member for football in 2001, and GWU’s move to the Big South as a full member – which became official on July 1, 2008. Burch oversees all athletic operations at Gardner-Webb, including management and supervision of athletic programs, facilities and budgets. During his career at GWU, Burch has overseen across-the-board improvements in athletics facilities and the addition of seven new sports since arriving in 1997. The most recent addition, women’s lacrosse, began play in 2014-2015. Burch is also responsible for continued improvements in the quality and quantity of Gardner-Webb’s athletics staff – with a number of full-time positions created to assist and enhance the entire department. GWU athletics has seen a steady increase in academic performance since Burch’s arrival, and the department has posted a combined GPA above 3.0 in each of the last seven academic years. In 2009-2010, Gardner-Webb posted its highest finish in the annual Big South Conference Sasser Cup, taking No. 4 in the final standings of the all-sports race. The women’s basketball team captured its first Big South Tournament title, advancing to the first round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament. Two other teams – women’s soccer and baseball – advanced to the league tournament title game in their respective seasons as well. Gardner-Webb’s final year in the Atlantic Sun Conference was fruitful, with several notable wins and the usual high number of strong academic performances by the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ student-athletes. GWU enjoyed its most successful athletics year as a Division I member in 2006-2007. Gardner-Webb won its first Atlantic Sun Conference Academic Championship, unseating Belmont University for the title. The Runnin’ Bulldogs also finished third in the men’s and women’s combined sports standings – a very impressive effort in the race for the inaugural Bill Bibb Trophy. Gardner-Webb’s men’s soccer team captured the imagination of fans across Cleveland County during its run to the 2006 A-Sun Championship and NCAA Tournament second round. National qualifiers in Track & Field, swimming and wrestling highlighted competitive success for the Runnin’ Bulldogs in 2006-2007. Burch, a graduate of Independence (N.C.) High in Charlotte, and former member of Gardner-Webb’s football and tennis teams, spent 1991-1997 as Director of Athletics at Liberty (Va.) University, and was instrumental in a successful and well run department in Lynchburg as well. He also served Liberty as Associate Director of Athletics (1988-1990), Assistant Director of Athletics (1984-1988), Sports Information Director (1986-1988) and Assistant Director of Sports Information (1982-1984). After graduating from Gardner-Webb in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Burch, 55, earned his master’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 1982. His wife, Franki, holds a Ph.D. in Health Education from the University of Virginia, and is Associate Provost for Professional and Graduate Studies at Gardner-Webb. The couple has three children, Travis, Danielle and Amy.

An integral part of the entire Gardner-Webb University athletics program, the Athletic Training Program emphasizes the importance of wellness in the teams’ pursuit of success. Under the supervision of Kevin Jones, ATC, and the rest of the Athletic Training faculty and staff, athletic training students complete part of their clinical education with the University’s 21 varsity sports. Jones and his staff work toward the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. The athletic training students at GWU are fortunate to have a faculty and staff of nine certified athletic trainers and a cooperative intercollegiate athletics staff to enhance their learning experience. The clinical education that is conducted while serving the student-athletes at GardnerWebb University allows for comprehensive medical care in a learning environment. The athletic training educational program recently completed its full accreditation by CAATE, marking an exciting moment in the program’s history. Athletic training students are able to pursue a B.S. in Athletic Training through the Department of Physical Education and Sport Studies. Upon graduation, athletic training students must complete a three-part examination conducted by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association’s Board of Certification to become Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC). One of the most respected academic majors on campus, the Gardner-Webb Athletic Training educational program boasts a growing enrollment and provides students with first-class instruction and practical experience in their chosen field of study. Currently, GardnerWebb graduates are working with NFL teams, colleges and universities, high schools and physical therapy clinics. After their academic careers at Gardner-Webb, many students also choose to seek graduate assistant positions at colleges and universities around the nation.

S PA N G L E R S TA D I U M Ernest W. Spangler Stadium serves as the home venue for both Gardner-Webb football and lacrosse. With a seating capacity of 8,000 and a brand new artificial turf surface for the 2014-2015 season, Spangler Stadium stands apart as one of the finiest venues in the nation for FCS Football and NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse. The stadium was built in 1966 with a natural grass surface, which has undergone several reconditioning projects over the past 40 years. The stadium benefitted from a major renovation in 2004, which resulted in the sparkling GWU Football Center and an overhaul of the Hamrick Field House – which now houses offices for men’s and women’s soccer, track and field and women’s lacrosse.

Jillian Krick was named head coach at Gardner-Webb on June 19, 2015, continuing the process of building a new program after serving as an assistant coach during the program’s inaugural season. “Jillian was impressive during the interview process,” said Vice President for Athletics Chuck Burch. “Her familiarity with the program, our university and its commitment to Christian higher education will be advantageous as she continues to build a lacrosse tradition here. I am confident what she lacks in experience will be compensated for by her enthusiasm, willingness to learn and high level of energy.” The Harrisburg, Pa. native helped lay the foundation for the program in its inaugural season last spring, a season which saw the Runnin’ Bulldogs steadily improve in all facets of the game. That progression ultimately bore fruit in the program’s first win on April 24 against Presbyterian, a 13-12 come-from-behind victory which featured three Gardner-Webb goals in the final 12 minutes to complete the comeback. Krick joined the Gardner-Webb coaching staff after her playing career at Liberty University. She played in 57 games for the Flames and made 47 starts. Krick’s leadership ability was on display as a student-athlete, as she was named a team captain during her senior season. She was also active in the community during her time in Lynchburg, Va., helping coach the JAB Lacrosse club for girls age 13-18 – as well as helping mentor children in area elementary schools. “I am honored with the opportunity to serve as head coach of this program as we look to continue moving toward our goal of competing for Big South Conference championships,” said Krick. “It is an exciting challenge that I look forward to attacking with the young women in our program now and in the future.” Krick, a native of Harrisburg, Pa., earned a degree in family and child development (psychology minor) from Liberty University in May, 2013. She graduated with a Master’s degree in human services/criminal justice from Liberty in 2014.

Lexi Cross is in her first season at Gardner-Webb University as an assistant coach with the women’s lacrosse program. A native of Marriottsville, Maryland, Cross was a three-year starting defender at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she was named to the 2015 Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Third Team. The 2015 team captain was twice named to the All-CAA First Team, while also earning a spot on the IWLCA All-South Region Second Team this past spring after setting career highs in both ground balls (47) and caused turnovers (28). “I am very excited to add Alexis Cross to my staff,” said Krick. “Alexis brings a great deal of knowledge from James Madison University and was an outstanding defender during her time there. Coming from such a successful program and off a great season winning the Colonial Athletic Association, I know Alexis will have a lot of insight for our program. I am looking forward to working with Alexis and think she will be a great asset to our program.” During her four-year career with the Dukes, Cross helped James Madison to an overall record of 48-25, including a 15-5 mark and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2015. Cross holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Sports and Recreation Management from James Madison with minors in business and coaching. Cross brings a wealth of coaching experience at the club level as well, including four years as a coach with M&D Club Lacrosse in Ellicott City, Maryland, with whom she planned and directed overall team strategy as well as assisting players and their families with the collegiate recruiting process. She also has experience on the strength and conditioning side of athletics, having completed an internship at her alma mater, James Madison University, last fall.

Sam Struss is in her first season at Gardner-Webb University as an assistant coach with the women’s lacrosse program. Struss comes to Gardner-Webb following a stellar playing career at Big South Conference foe Liberty, where she compiled 108 goals, 55 assists and 163 points in 73 games. Perhaps her best season came this past spring, when the 5-foot-2 attack accounted for 36 goals, 20 assists and 56 points while helping Liberty to a 9-11 overall record and a runner-up finish in the Big South Tournament. “I am very thrilled to add Samantha Struss to my staff,” said Krick. “Samantha had a great career at Liberty University and was a former teammate of mine. She was a strong force on the offense end of the field and I am excited for the new ideas she will bring to our offensive unit. Coming off a successful season in the Big South, I am confident Samantha will lead our attack in the right direction. It will be great to have her back on my team.” A native of Evans City, Pennsylvania, Struss scored at least 12 goals in each of her four seasons at Liberty, netting a program-record 41 strikes in 2014 after posting 19 goals and 21 assists as a sophomore in 2013. Struss was named to the Big South All-Conference Second Team as a senior in 2015. The two-time Big South All-Academic honoree holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science from Liberty. Struss has extensive coaching experience at the club as well, most recently serving as an assistant coach for Pittsburgh Premier Lacrosse Club, where she assisted with drills and helped to design and implement various offensive sets. She also spent three years as an assistant coach for Pittsburgh Select Lacrosse, designing and facilitating drills to advance each player’s knowledge and individual skills.

2016 SEASON PREVIEW Year Two For The Program The Gardner-Webb lacrosse program enters its second year after growing by leaps and bounds over the course of its first season. Jillian Krick takes the reins in her first season at the helm after helping the Runnin’ Bulldogs through the program’s first season as an assistant coach in 2015. With Experience Comes Improvement Gardner-Webb’s inaugural recruiting class enters its second season with a significant level of experience under its belt from last spring, when the Runnin’ Bulldogs were limited to two substitutes for much of the campaign. Senior Alanna Costigan and sophomore captains Lexi Kasofsky, Cassidy McDowell and Lindsey Lippert return to lead the Runnin’ Bulldogs on and off the field, as Gardner-Webb brings 11 players back from its inaugural season. Fresh Faces Bring Greater Depth Gardner-Webb should benefit significantly from greater depth provided by its second full recruiting class, with 11 new faces joining the program for this season. Redshirt junior transfer Cassandra Fulop joins a group of 10 promising freshmen to give Coach Krick and her staff a wide range of personnel options this season. New Blood Between The Sticks McDowell and freshman Candice Partlow will compete for the primary shot-stopping duties this season, with McDowell transitioning from attack to goalie and Partlow entering her first collegiate campaign. McDowell will be tasked with stopping goals instead of scoring them this spring after scoring 11 goals last season. Partlow joins the Runnin’ Bulldogs from Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana, where she played several seasons for head coach Jeremy Brown. Protecting The House Veterans Kasofsky, Brooke Fernandes and Michelle Hedrick return to lead a deep defensive corps for the Runnin’ Bulldogs, which steadily improved over the course of last season. The trio combined for 58 ground balls and 36 caused turnovers last spring – including stellar totals of 27 and 19 for Fernandes. Fulop, as well as freshmen Sam Cooper, Catherine Fox and Airea Williams, will join the veteran corps to form a talented and versatile group in front of Gardner-Webb’s cage. Fulop comes to Gardner-Webb from Alderson Broaddus University, where she started 13 games last season and recorded eight ground balls to go along with four caused turnovers and three draw controls. Cooper joins the Runnin’ Bulldogs from Southern High School in Harwood, Maryland, where she lettered in soccer and swimming in addition to lacrosse. While at Southern, Cooper was named to the 2013 Brine All-America Team.

Fox is a former VISAA state champion with The Covenant School in Charlottesville, Va., and was named to the VISAA All-State Second team as a senior. Williams won back-to-back state championships with Vero Beach Senior High School, and was recognized on both the alldistrict first team and all-region second team as a senior. Strong In The Middle The Runnin’ Bulldogs return a potentially lethal combination of midfielders from last season, including a trio of double-digit goal scorers in Lippert, Amanda Steinmuller and Monique Martin. Lippert – entering her second year as a team captain – is coming off a superb freshman campaign in which she totaled 10 goals, three assists, 13 points and 35 ground balls. Steinmuller led Gardner-Webb in scoring during its inaugural campaign, amassing 18 goals, three assists and 21 points to go along with 28 ground balls. Martin led the Runnin’ Bulldogs in several statistical categories during her rookie season, recording 10 goals and four assists in addition to team-highs of 55 draw controls, 54 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers. For her efforts, Martin was named to the Big South All-Conference Second Team. Also returning to the midfield for Gardner-Webb is Destiny Mead, who posted seven goals and 32 ground balls last spring. A trio of newcomers in freshmen Colleen Conn, Sadie Bryant and Emma Rufolo will join the midfield corps and compete for playing time alongside the veterans. A threesport star in lacrosse, basketball and volleyball at William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, N.Y., Conn served as varsity captain and earned a spot on the Principal’s Honor Roll. Bryant comes to Gardner-Webb from St. Anne’s-Belfield in Charlottesville, Va., where she garnered all-state and All-LIS honors in both lacrosse and field hockey. Rufolo dons the Black and Red following a three-sport prep career at Chapelgate Christian Academy in Marriotsville, Md. While enrolled at Chapelgate, Rufolo participated in both soccer and basketball in addition to lacrosse, earning conference All-Star honors in each of the last two seasons in lacrosse. Attacking The Future Costigan, Alex Fusco and Emma Rose will be expected to carry much of the attacking load for the Runnin’ Bulldogs this season after combining for 22 goals, 12 assists and 34 points last season. Costigan appeared in 16 games during her junior campaign, scoring one goal and scooping up 12 ground balls

2016 SEASON PREVIEW Fusco burst onto the scene over the last eight games in 2015, recording 12 goals, seven assists and 19 points to earn a spot on the Big South All-Conference Second Team. The Marietta, Ga. native played a vital role in the first win in program history, establishing a trio of school single-game records with four goals, three assists and seven points in the 13-12 comeback win over Presbyterian. Rose put together a solid rookie season last spring, totaling nine goals, five assists and 14 points to go along with 16 ground balls. She posted a pair of multi-goal games with two strikes against both Fresno State and St. Francis. Freshmen Kieran Garvey, Austyn Gorksi and Abby Hanscom will be expected to provide depth and compete for playing time immediately along the front line. Garvey comes to Gardner-Webb from Athens Drive High School in Raleigh, N.C., where she was named a Brine All-American in 2013. A two-time all-conference selection, Garvey also earned a spot on the North Carolina East All-Star team in 2013. Gorski joins the Runnin’ Bulldogs following an outstanding prep career at Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga., where she was earned all-county honors at attack twice. A two-time team MVP as a sophomore and junior, Gorski holds the career record for goals scored at Grayson while earning back-to-back selections to the Georgia All-Stars. Hanscom dons the Black and Red after earning all-state honors in 2014 as a member of the Holy Family Catholic High School girls’ lacrosse team in Victoria, Minn. Hanscom was a three-sport athlete at Holy Family, playing hockey and running cross country in addition to lacrosse while serving as a captain for all three programs. Sizing Up The Competition The Runnin’ Bulldogs will navigate another demanding schedule in the program’s second season, with 10 home games and seven road contests comprising their slate. The season kicks off on Friday, February 5 at nearby Limestone before Gardner-Webb squares off with ACC foe Virginia Tech in its home opener on Sunday, February 7. Gardner-Webb will play two more road games in nonconference play at first-year Virginia Commonwealth on February 14 and Furman on February 24. Five more home contests highlight the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ non-conference slate – including a February 20 tilt with first-year program Central Michigan – in addition to match-ups with William and Mary, St. Francis, Kennesaw State and Mercer.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs will open their Big South schedule with home contests against Campbell and firstyear program Radford on March 26 and 30, respectively, before ending their five-game home stand with a road tilt at Longwood on April 2. Three more road match-ups at High Point (April 6), Liberty (April 16) and Presbyterian (April 20) will compliment a pair of home contests against Coastal Carolina (April 9) and Winthrop (April 13) to round out the regular season slate for Gardner-Webb. Previewing The Big South The Runnin’ Bulldogs are picked to finish eighth in the race for the 2016 Big South Conference regular season title after earning the seventh seed in last year’s conference tournament. Defending tournament champion Winthrop was been selected as the favorite to win the 2016 crown with seven first-place votes, with High Point (second) and Liberty (fourth) splitting the remaining first-place tabs. Coastal Carolina and Campbell rounded out the top five in third and fifth, respectively, with Longwood (sixth), Presbyterian (seventh), Gardner-Webb and newcomers Radford (ninth) rounding out the preseason poll.
