BOLIER’S BIRTHDAY
Celebrating
65 YEARS OF POWER BOLIER HAS A LONG HISTORY IN THE NETHERLANDS, BUILDING ITS FIRST MAK ENGINE BACK IN 1955. TODAY, IN ITS ROLE OF OFFICIAL SERVICE EXCELLENCE Center for Caterpillar and MaK products, the company is still offering high quality solutions based on this extensive experience. Last month, it was time to celebrate as Bolier reached its 65th anniversary.
O
n 4 September Bolier’s birthday celebrations were held in conjunction with the inauguration of the company’s new building that was officially opened by Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Pon Holdings, Fanja Pon. In her speech she looked back on the advances in the maritime industry and particularly at the developments within Bolier – a company that has grown to be MaK’s largest sales and service company in Europe.
Looking to LNG
Managing Director Caterpillar Marine EAME Nigel Parkinson and CEO Pon Holdings Janus Smalbraak both addressed the event’s guests. In their speeches, they emphasised the growing prospects in the shipping industry through the development of other www. s h i p b u i l d i n g - i n d ustr y.eu

applications such as low emission engines. By developing dual fuel engines, Bolier/MaK is responding to the increased demand for operating with LNG.
Golden Age
Bolier also hosted a seminar on the development of natural gas engines during which Caterpillar Director of Gas Engine Strategy Joel Feucht stated that ‘the golden age of gas’ had dawned because it offered more environmental benefits, as well as being economically advantageous. LNG is considered to be one of the most important solutions for the emission problem and is something that Caterpillar has invested extensively in. In addition, he suggested that the best strategy and the key to success was to work together in a broad context, i.e. with parties such as Pon, Bolier and Caterpillar/MaK along with customers, suppliers, shipping companies, designers and shipyards. Instead of bringing the customary presents to such an event, Bolier requested that guests make a donation to Make-a-Wish Nederland: a charitable organisation that fulfils the wishes of children between 3 and 18 years of age who are suffering from a life-threatening illness. i. www.bolier.nl S BI 2014 | Vo l u me 8 | I s s u e 5 | 2 5
