Welcome to our latest edition of At Home. Whilst we are in uncharted waters in regard to the economic and political decisions of the country, Marchand Petit are finding that 2019 has started in a healthy vein here in the South Hams with plenty of activity in residential property sales, new homes and lettings. We are finding that with the relative shortage of new properties coming to the market, anything priced competitively is selling relatively quickly. I believe that our particular part of the world suffers less than some areas of the country, being somewhat shielded from the highs and lows of the property market. We are relatively protected here in the South Hams as our area is sought after by those relocating from London and the West Midlands seeking a change of lifestyle or looking for a second home to escape some of the pressures of modern day living. The ‘staycation’ too has become a reality and last summer’s lovely weather has contributed to tourist numbers rising year on year. The South Hams is a picturesque area to spend your leisure time with miles of distinctive coastline to enjoy, small sandy coves for swimming, stunning coastal paths and country lanes for walking as well as beautiful estuary towns with individual shops, boating opportunities, summer regattas and food festivals. Fine restaurants run by celebrity chefs, waterside cafes and pubs mean you are never at a loss to find the freshest fish and seafood all year round.
