Celebrations Throughout the Year August: Annual Brownfield Old Home Day—always the 2nd Saturday in August. Activities include a car show, parade, kiddie-land, cowchip bingo, firemen’s muster, contests, vendors, crafters, tons of food, a DJ, live band and more. August: Lovell Arts and Artisans Fair. Artists show their wares ranging from paintings to jewelry, metal work, floor clothes, clothing and more at this 100% juried fair. A huge used book sale and food are also available.

In each of our small communities, there are signature events that showcase the spirit of the Greater Bridgton Lakes Region. Below is a partial list of our annual events.

March: Maine Maple Sunday, Sebago. Celebrating its 25th year, the annual pancake breakfast featuring local maple syrup, takes place at the Sebago Town Hall. Maine Maple Sunday is always the fourth Sunday in March.

January: Mushers’ Bowl, Bridgton. Dogs, sled and driver dash off onto trails that wind through the orchards and woods at Five Fields Farm in South Bridgton. The Mushers’ Bowl includes sled dog races and skijoring.

April: Sheep Fest, Denmark. From shearing to spinning, all things sheep are celebrated at the Denmark Arts Center. The festival features fiber, spinners, educational materials and food.

February: Sebago Lake Ice Fishing Derby, Raymond. Winter fun includes an ice fishing derby, snowmobile speed run, fly-in, hot air balloon and helicopter rides, polar dip, and food vendors at Raymond Beach. Monetary prizes awarded to derby winners.

June: Maine Blues Fest—Always Father’s Day weekend. From Friday night through Sunday afternoon, the festival brings more than 40 regional and local acts to over 10 stages throughout town. There’s even a Blues cruise and dockside performances on the Causeway.

July: Waterford World’s Fair— the little agricultural fair with a big heart. This three-day fair features traditional activities such as oxen, horse, tractor and ATV pulls, skillet and horseshoe toss, baking contests, pig scrambles, cow-chip bingo, music and food. July: Casco Days—always the last Saturday in July. A hometown event since 1935, held in Casco Days Park, the celebration includes fireworks, a midway, road race and two parades. There’s also a pancake breakfast to support Lake Region High School’s Project Graduation. August: Sweden Days. Historical hikes, a talent show, pot-luck supper and contra dance have long been the focus of this town’s celebration. The town meeting house is the center of all the activity. 28

October: Fryeburg Fair— Maine’s Blue Ribbon Classic—always the first week of October, this is the largest agricultural fair in the state. Midway rides, carnival food, harness racing, exhibits, demonstrations, concerts, contests and more. November/December: Christmas Tree Lighting, Stow. The annual Christmas Tree lighting accompanied by carols marks the start of the holiday season. Following the ceremony, residents gather for a social hour at the Stow Corner Store. December: Christmas in Harrison—always the first weekend in December. Traditional activities range from a live Nativity to a tree lighting ceremony, parade, craft fair, horse-drawn wagon rides and open houses, plus plenty of food.
