Headmaster’s Notes Continued... AIC Swimming What a brilliant day!! The team was inspiring as was the cheering from Years 11 and 12. The strong sense of pride in belonging to Marist College Ashgrove will long be remembered. My thanks to: • The boys for their commitment to the program and their willingness to extend themselves beyond what was believed to be their capabilities. • The parents who support the boys by getting them to and from training and participating in fundraising. • The coaches who have done so much to prepare the boys for the carnival: Mr Michael Wooldridge, Mr Derek Cameron, Mr Doug Perrers, Mr Chris Dash, Miss Margaret Canning, Mr John Mulvihill and Mr Andre Cois. Other Swimming News Congratulations to Rory Scott (9F) and Jack Riley (9R) who competed at the Brisbane Senior Metropolitan Championships last weekend at Chandler Aquatic Centre. Jack qualified for 14 year old 100m Backstroke for the Australian Age Nationals to be held in Adelaide in April and also won bronze in the 100m Backstroke and bronze in the 200 Individual Medley. Rory has also qualified for Australian Age Nationals and will compete in the 13 year old 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 100m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke and 200 Individual Medley. Rory won gold in the 100m and 200m Freestyle at the Brisbane Metropolitan Championships as well as gold in the 200 IM and silver in the 100m Breaststroke. Both boys will compete at the School State Championships this week as part of the Marist Met North Swim team. Patron's Shield Swimming Competition Three Marist boys were selected from Brisbane Swimming to represent the region at a 3-way meet held at the Valley pool recently. Sebastian Leavy (7Gold), Luke Brennan (5Red) and Rory Scott (9F). The three boys won their races beating strong opposition from the other regions, the Gold Coast and Darling Downs. Brisbane went on to win the Shield. Autumn Concert The Autumn Concert held on 14 March was outstanding! Congratulations to the boys in the various bands, ensembles and orchestras and their mentors Mr Butt, Mr Kennedy, Mrs Green and Mrs Wasserman. Cricket & Volleyball Many thanks to all boys involved in cricket or volleyball this term and also to their families who have supported them. I would like to acknowledge the work of the coaches and thank them for all they do. May they rest in peace. Amen. 2013 Next Step survey The Queensland Government is conducting its annual statewide survey of all students who completed Year 12 in 2012. The Next Step survey is a brief, confidential survey that gains a comprehensive picture of the employment, study and life choices made by Queensland school leavers in the year after they finish Year 12. Between March and June, all students who completed Year 12 last year can expect to receive instructions to complete a webbased survey or a telephone call from the Government Statistician to complete the survey. Please encourage them to take part. If their contact details have changed, please assist the interviewer with their updated details of forward the survey to their new address so they can participate.
