Junior School Sporting News • Players must wear full appropriate College Cricket uniform whilst playing C.I.C. games. This includes the long white sleeved College Cricket shirt which can be purchased form the uniform shop plus long white pants. SWIMMING (Mr Andre Cois – Junior Swim Coach) The Junior School Swimmers have been working tirelessly all season, with a large majority of boys continuing their training throughout the holidays. To all the boys that have trained over the holidays and are still coming down to the pool regularly, I urge you to continue your efforts over the next crucial weeks. As most would have heard by now the Junior School Swim Camp which was held at the school in January was a great success. Not only did the boys put in big efforts in the pool sessions, but they also banded together to develop a team atmosphere with the new swimmers in the college. I would also like to add how pleased I was with the turnout on this year’s camp, with 75 boys attending across the age groups. The first Friday Night CIC lead-up carnival was held last Friday (3 Feb) at Nudgee College. Although the carnival itself was interrupted by a huge downpour of rain, the Personal Best times seen across the age groups is a promising sign for what the CIC carnival may hold. The North-West District Championships were held last Friday with the following boys progressing through to represent their district at the Regional Championships on February 29: U/10 –Henry Meland, Will Jackson, Peter Kruip, Max Chandler, Nick McGill; U/11 – Sebastian Leavy, Will Symington, Lachlan Kahl, Ben Geraghty. U12 – Matt Dangerfield, Tom Dangerfield, Tom Carroll, Mike Lidstone;. U/13 – Callum Zipf, Sean Cumming and Will Ryan. Hopefully we will see some great times from these boys on the day, and we wish them the best of luck with qualifying for the Metropolitan North Team. To all Junior Boys, the countdown to CIC day is almost up, with less than a month now before the competition. These last weeks are absolutely crucial. I hope to see you all on pool deck giving your best effort every session. Make the most of what little time we have left! Make every session count! INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENTS Congratulations to Sebastian Leavy (Year 6 Green) who won the Under 10, 50 metre Breaststroke event at the Queensland Sprint Championships held on Sunday 5 February. This is the same event that he won last year, when he went on to come fourth in the Queensland Primary Schools Championships, against the same boys. Well done Sebastian! Christian Dickens (Year 7 Red) was selected to represent Queensland at the National Futsal titles held at Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium, Windsor, Sydney in January 2012. He represented the U12 Queensland City team as goalkeeper and they made it through to the final, only to lose 5-2 to Northern NSW Central Coast. Despite the loss he had the consolation of being voted his team’s MVP for the tournament and has also subsequently been invited by the selectors to represent Australia as goalkeeper in the tournament to be held in Malaysia at the end of this year in December 2012. An amazing achievement by Christian! It is always good for the College to recognize boys’ individual achievements. If you are aware of an achievement of a particular boy/s please email the accomplishment to caplickl@marash.qld.edu.au. RUGBY REFEREES The College is seeking interested parents, older age students or old boys to referee throughout the upcoming CIC season. If you are interested in becoming a rugby referee please send your name, contact details and rugby experience to: caplickl@marash.qld.edu.au Luke Caplick Head of Sport – Junior School
