Mark Hunter has been hired as the development director for The Oregon Garden Foundation. Hunter is responsible for shaping the fund development program for The Oregon Garden, including endowment, capital, annual giving and major Mark Hunter gift campaigns. Hunter has held senior level positions with the Boys Scouts of America in Arizona and Washington; the United Way of Northern Arizona, and with the Arizona Community Foundation. Throughout his nonprofit management career, Hunter has led efforts to improve communities, build summer camps and create strategic direction for the agencies for which he has worked. “I strongly support and believe in the notion that we are in the business of creating memories and through those memories, we are able to teach and provide experiences that will shape the future for our communities, families
Old Stuff on Main If you enjoy antiques or old stuff from books to furniture and dishes to clothes, be sure to mark your calendar for Saturday, Aug. 29. That’s when Old Stuff on Main Street returns to Silverton. The free event is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Silverton. Vendors will be selling antiques, collectibles, handcrafted jewelry, homemade cosmetics and more. There also will be food vendors. For information, call 503859-4435
Community invited to free ‘Celebrate Families’ What better way to celebrate the end of summer than by attending the Celebrate Families picnic Friday, Aug. 21, beginning at 5 p.m. in CoolidgeMcClaine Park. The picnic dinner, entertainment, games and more are free for Silverton residents. The picnic is hosted by Silverton Senior Center, Silverton Together, Kiwanis Club, Portrait Express and City of Silverton.

and especially kids,” Hunter said. He said he relocated to Oregon to be closer to family, discovering Silverton via the Internet. His lifelong love of the outdoors was a strong attraction to the position as development director. “I have always been in awe of The Oregon Garden, but never thought I’d have the opportunity to be a part of its many impressive projects and programs.” Hunter’s priorities include strengthening the foundation’s capacity to fund future garden initiatives; improving the foundation’s endowment program; and addressing financial needs of facilities and projects at the garden. Hunter is a native of Arizona and graduate of Arizona State University with an emphasis in nonprofit management. He has served on a number of nonprofit boards and in his spare time loves to spend time with his family.
Mount Angel Oktoberfest continues photo search It’s time to dig through your photo albums and share your favorite Oktoberfest shots. At the festival’s 50th anniversary celebration there will be a display of memorabilia and pictures. Appreciation Day set for Mount Angel
Mount Angel Telephone invites community members to its Customer Appreciation Day Friday , Aug. 21, 11 a.m to 2 p.m. at the cor ner of Garfield and College streets in M ount Angel. Guests can enjoy a free lunch, display booths, a bounce house for the kids, face painting, door prizes and a bike rodeo. The entire event is free.
