POVERTY AMONG LONE PARENT FAMILIES IS INCREASING The number of lone parent families, the vast majority of which are led by women, receiving social assistance has increased at an average rate of 1.7% per year since 2006. By 2014, there were over 500 more lone parent families receiving Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program than in 2006.

In London, the number and percent of lone parents with income below the Low Income Measure has fluctuated over the years; however, the overall trend has been upward. Compared to 2006, in 2013, there are 6% more lone parents with low income. The total number of lone parents increased by 2%.
