A complex building for the local architecture firms and students, which act as an a medium for the architecture industry, students and the public to get in touch with each other, It is a place for the small and mid scale office to promote their works to the public and the public to get engaged with the design. The street outside the office could a place for experimenting their design or location for showcasing their products.

Initial Studies of the Volumetric Relationships between Programmes

The initial thoughts of incorporating the vertical street concept into the projects is to link each poping boxes with a single and continous street. The circulation become too dull and homogeneos which is opposite to the atmosphere that we want to shape. We then re-organize the scheme in which the importants elements are kept i.e. the boxes and the streets, into a more resilient and free way.

The image on the right is showing the imagination of how the vertical street connects a series of event space and activities, the street is no longer only a circulation space, the boundary between served and servant space is diluted in this project.

The U-block defined an area to form the main atrium, in which a great variety of activities happen there such as performances, construction testing crafts selling. The atrium and street serve the public, bringing neighborhood and citizens into the innovative domain. Users end up arriving at a generous green roof, a blank space getting in touch with nature, and as a nice observation deck viewing towards a calm lake.

The roof garden is designed for the architects, students, and the public to use, consists of green area and urban furniture, as spot of relax during heavy work and a place for the public to relax.

Public Architects

Architecture school is a place for gathering different ideas from various groups of people, including architects, students, and the public. This project is about connecting the firms with streets, as known as exhibition routes. The streets are accomplished with firms are encouraged to display their production along the streets. Besides, the punches are platforms joining different users in which they can exchange ideas and do collaborative works, this also attracts people to enjoy the exhibition route.

There are two main components:

1 A large block with solid and glass facade including fabrication laboratory, exhibition space, auditorium, library basketball court, etc.

2. A U-shaped block including small and mediumsized firms, freelance architects' workspace, and student learning center while small and medium firms are arranged randomly to synthesize collaboration and interaction between them.

The streets are transformed from circulation space into display and communal space by different setting of furniture placed. The space is flexible and could be changed. The stepped scenario alos help to display or showcase the events/products to the people from far away.

INTERTWINED BRIDGE

For a long office building laying on a river, which is the shared property of the local people, the porject should be incorporated with plenty of public elements. This project aims to mix the public programme and the private office space in a form of intertwining. The bridge building then becomes not only for circulation and office use only, it also becomes a cultuural/sport hub for the residents in Shatin.

A Bridge Over Shing Mun River

Shing Mun River is a public property belongs to the Sha Tin residents. To build a private office aross the river, the effect to the nearby public is the most important factor. The Intertwined bridge entangle public circulation and programs together with private office space. Pedestrian can choose to cross the river with express circulation on the ground floor or enjoy an interesting journey filled with exciting spatial qualities which is intermingled to the office space and bulging in the facade. For office workers, once they leave the office, they can immediately enjoy programs such as bookstore and cafe. The two voids which connects the sky, the interior space and the river brings different users of the buildings and river users together and served as a uplifted water courtyard.

Intertwined Circulation

Public and private space are intertwined together as a new imagination of the typology of the traditional office

A long rectangular mass facing north/south is placed and uplifted above Shing Mun River's intersection point. Two vertical voids are crafted out to connect different people. Two ends are twisted towards transportation nodes. Public programs are placed in bulging location along the circulation path which allows public to enjoy interfloor circulation. building in the form of a long massing.

LIBERASCAPE

Senior Cohousing for the Demented

Kwun Tong | 2021 Academic | Group Project

Instructor: Prof. MO Kar Him

To tackle worsening situation of the demented elders in Hong Kong, a new experimental building typology should be investigated in relation to the co-living of this senior group. The low autonomy and dignity situation of traditional insituitions should be mininmized while freedom should be provided.

Oblique plane, as an architectural operation to expand the wandering path of the residents in a high-density housing project, is able to stimulate the demented elders with variours spatial quality, strong visual connection and exciting programmes in the coourtyard space.

Social-economic model of the project, aiming to provide a quality co-living space to the elderly and act as and cultural spot for the community

AGAINST stigmatization

The environment of the elderly home in Hong Kong are not friendly to those with dementia, which is a common among the seniors. Their autonomy and dignity are confined to a small extent due safety and management factor. They are phycially confined (tied with rope on their bed/chair) to prevent them from getting lost due to bad memory.

This project aims to reduce the physical and mental limitations for the demented elderly while maintaining their safety in control. The new layout allows visual connections between different groups of elderly with different care needs. Everyone is under a same roof but seperated circulation route.

Community Rowing Centre

Rowing Centre | Malaysia

Academic | Individual

Instructor: Prof. Chris Bene

This rowing centre is located on an open site in Kuala Lumpur. As in the tropical region, climatic strategy and response to the site environment become the most important aspect of this project. The major operation of this project is to create a large roof to cover a series of permeable rooms under it, which can maximize ventilation and minimize sun shade. The long thin massing connects to side of the land which activate the water body in-between.

Wood structure is another challenge of this project, the use of beam and truss on the roof and floor makes a contrast of light and heavy, shaping a sense of lightness.

A quick sketch at the early design stage, showing the intention to use the rowing centre as an entrance to let to boat start the race. The boats will cross under the building and enter the deep water area or come back to the shallow area.
