The KORUS Festival is a three-day event with FREE admission celebrating the relationship between Korea and the United States. The KORUS Festival will feature special musical performances from Kollaboration DC (http://kollaborationdc.org) alumni as well as a traditional Korean music performance and a taekwondo demonstration. Audiences will be entertained by a talent show, a singing contest, and a K-Pop cover contest presented by WKTV XM Korea Today

The National Gugak Center In Celebration of the 130th Years of the Korea and US Diplomatic Relationship The National Gugak Center (formerly known as The National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts) proudly announces its special performances, Friday through Sunday, September 14-16, 2012, at the Korea-America “KORUS” Festival in celebration of the 130th Year of the Korea and United States Diplomatic Relationship. The National Gugak Center is the Korean nation’s representative institution for music and dance. Throughout its expansive history of 1,400 years, the Center has been charged with preserving Korean traditional performing arts, and to this day it works to create a secure future for traditional music. During the festival, the performing members of the National Gugak Center will showcase some of the most vibrant and artistic genres and repertoires of the Korean traditional performing arts, providing a memorable
experience for the American audience that will highlight the essence of Korean traditional culture and its artistic creativity which is so highly praised.

DJ Koo

is a Korean Pop singer, DJ, and actor. He was a member of the disbanded Dance duo Clon, and previously of Tak and Jun. When Clon was on a break, due to Kang Won Rae's motorbike accident, he debuted as a solo artist with the album KOOJUNYUP in 2003. After Clon's disbandment he changed his stage name to the actual DJ Koo and released the single "I'm DJ Koo" in 2008.
NORAZO NORAZO

is a Korean pop/Dance male duo. Mostly known for their comical/eccentric appearance and surprising lyrics, like their 2007 hit "Superman", they are usually covered by Korean idol singers on their concerts. Japanese group DJ OZMA also covered some of their songs. The duo's name sounds similar to the Korean word 놀아줘 (Norajuo), but comes from the Chinese characters 努喇鳥, which mean "A bird that tries hard to blow the horn". It is also meant to say that they like songs live. They became very famous in Korea for their hit "Superman" and they're often covered at Korean Idol Concerts.

80년대 중후반과 90년대 초반을 풍미했던 실력파 중견 가수 전성기 당시 실력과 인기를 모두 인정받았던 이치현 민해경 강인원 권인하는 등은 여전히 `듣는 음 악`을 원하는 팬들이 많이 존재한다는 점에 힘입어 더 칼러스를 전격 결성했다. 여기에는 최근 가요계에 분 이른바 `세시봉 열풍`도 한몫했다. 작곡가와 가수(강인원 민해경), 프로젝트 팀원(강인원 권인하), 친구(강인원 이치현) 등 4명이 남다 른 인연을 갖고 있는 점도, 더 칼러스 결성에 호재가 됐다.

Korea Daily Talent Show 7:30pm (Fri) The “Talent Contest” will be the primetime highlight for the very first night of the 10th KORUS Festival, opening its curtains at 7pm on Friday, September 14, 2012. Korea Daily is proud to return as a sponsor for the “Talent Contest” at the KORUS Festival. Everyone who would like to show off your talent in singing performance, musical performance, or magic show are welcome to attend. The door is open for all the participants to shine at the the opening of this unique Korean Festival that is being held in the Washington area. Prizes will be provided in a form of Gift Certificate provided by Super H-Mart.
K-Pop Contest 5pm (Sat) XM KOREA TODAY 의 K-POP NIGHT 은 한국인을 제외한 외국인이어야 하며, 반드시 KPOP 노래를 불러야 합니다 엄정한 예선을 거쳐 본선에 오른 참가자 중 대상에게는 대한항공에 서 한국 항공편을 비록하여 푸짐한 상품이 주어지며, XM KOREA TODAY 생방송 프로그램에 참 가하는 자격이 주어집니다.
Korea Times Singing Contest 7:30pm (Sat) 이번 행사에는 워싱턴, 버지니아, 메릴랜드에 거주하는 만 26세 이상 남녀 는 누구나 참가할 수 있다. 대상에는 한국 왕복항공권(탑 여행사 제공)이 부상으 로 주어지며 금상은 미 동부관광 2박3일권, 은상은 1박2일권, 동상에는 댄디 유 람선 관광권이 제공된다. 본선에 앞서 예선이 12일(수) 저녁 6시 한국일보 문화센터에서 열리며 참가 비는 10달러이다. 이번 대회는 워싱턴대중가요음악학원과 워싱턴가요동우회가 후원한다. 2004년 ‘워싱턴 주부가요열창’이란 명칭으로 시작된 이 대회는 참가자들의 수준 높은 열창과 친지, 가족들의 뜨거운 응원전에 힘입어 코러스 축제 최고의 인 기 프로그램으로 자리 잡았다. 또 입상자들 대다수가 프로 가수 뺨치는 실력으로 명실상부한 워싱턴 가수왕 선발행사로 평가받고 있다. 특히 2008년과 2009년 연속으로 미국인이 대상을 차지하는 등 한인뿐만 아니라 주류사회의 관심과 참여 열기도 뜨겁다.

Children’s Hanbok Contst 1:30pm (Sat) Hanbok (South Korea) or Chosŏn-ot (North Korea) is the traditional Korean dress. It is often characterized by vibrant colors and simple lines without pockets. Although the term literally means "Korean clothing", hanbok today often refers specifically to hanbok of Joseon Dynasty and is worn as semi-formal or formal wear during traditional festivals and celebrations. The modern hanbok does not exactly follow the actual style as worn in Joseon dynasty since it went through some major changes during the 20th century for practical reasons.
