The Power of Wow event was held at the Agora Theatre located in

Cleveland, OH. It has a rich history and has been a cornerstone of the city’s music scene since its establishment in the 1970s, hosting numerous legendary acts and contributing to Cleveland’s vibrant music culture. The event began with hairstylists lining the block, excitedly waiting for the doors to open. The house was packed with nearly 400 stylists buzzing with energy and ready to take it all in.

Appleton put on a fantastic show telling stories from his beginnings in England, deciding to be a hairstylist, and leaving everything behind to take a chance moving to L.A. It took him four months to get his first gig. He spoke about the pressure of being successful to continue following his dream in L.A. At the time, he was surprised that J.Lo knew who he was and had been following him on Instagram.

He demoed several of his most famous looks, including his tight snatched Ariana Grande’s ponytail using ColowWow’s Cult-Favorite Hair Spray, Kim Kardashian’s Glass Hair using Dream Coat, and his voluminous J. Lo’s Super Bowl look using Style on Steroids. We will feature these looks, how-to’s, and tips and tricks in more detail on Maly’s @ManocoBlue’s blog. He shared what it is like to work on the Red Carpet, Fashion Week, the Met Gala, and for his celebrity clients. To him, they are regular people, and he has one goal: to make them feel beautiful and create a fantastic look that they are happy with. He spoke about always trying to improve what he does. How he stays inspired by trying to keep it simple but constantly taking that look to the next level. For example, Kim has straight, long hair. He worked on taking this simple look to the next level, and that is where glass hair came from. He wanted to create extreme shine and smoothness to make that look stand out.

Appleton said that his most nerveracking event is the Met Gala because the hair is photographed from 360 degrees. So he has to make sure it looks good from every angle. He was genuine about the anxiety hair stylists feel about their work and others commenting on their posted pictures. He had had many times when he wasn’t sure his work was good enough, only to have everyone love it afterward. His advice is to be flexible. If your client is not into our idea, be open to changing your plan. In the end, you will both be happier with the outcome.

Appleton lifted one lucky lady onto the stage from the floor, much to our surprise, to have her highlights touched up with his favorite Root Cover-Up. He was spontaneous, throwing hair products into the crowd, and down-to-earth admitting his struggles and stresses. The whole event felt like chatting with your bestie while you learned some jaw-dropping looks, styling secrets, and stories about the behind-the-scenes of his most famous looks.
