Our longtime brand partners never cease to amaze us with their new newest introductions. David Yurman recently engaged Sofia Richie Grainge as their brand ambassador. Elegant and chic, I’ve literally swooned while peeping images of her with the Yurman family, with her poise and effortless style, which is so refreshing to see.

Roberto Coin has wowed us with Cialoma, his new high-style and high-wattage collection, boldly executed in 18k gold and enhanced with the sparkle of diamonds.

Sweta Jain, the multitalented designer of Goshwara, comes from a family of legendary colored stonecutters. She is fantastic at utilizing bold gemstones to create classic and timeless jewelry, but always with a nod to high fashion.

Stephen Webster continues to be a fan favorite, and his newest designs encapsulate his distinctive rock-and-roll POV. Forever a classic, worn either as a lustrous single strand or in multiple layers, pearls will always captivate. We’ve added some new brands that we think you will love, each chosen because of their distinctive design perspective.

Jade Trau’s passion for designing and creating diamond jewelry was honed by growing up in a respected “diamond family.” She is well known for taking mismatched diamond shapes and sizes and making sense out of all of it, designing wearable jewelry in her distinctive language.

TENTHOUSANDTHINGS is known for minimalist organic designs, often incorporating tactile stones polished in India.

Dinh Van, a timeless and modern collection executed in Paris in 18k gold, enjoys a cult following with their iconoclastic jewels.

Sydney Evan designer Rosanne Karmes describes her collection as “fine jewelry for every story.” Colorful and fun, her work is inspired by sentiment, spirituality and strength. Her motto is BE LOVE. You must be living under a rock if you haven’t been influenced by the resurgence of the 90s supermodel. Christie nailed closing out the Ralph Lauren Show, Linda has a new book and is sharing not only her supermodel chic over the years but also her super HERO strength after battling breast cancer back-to-back. Not to mention, no one (except for maybe her super-hot offspring) can match the coolness factor of Cindy.

That raw confidence, that emanates from your soul, baby that’s your fire. That’s the look I’m going for this season. And I expect each of you to let that shine. Tell that little bully who knocks you down every time you look in the mirror that you’re a flipping warrior.

Just in time to rally that inner badass, the blazers this season are strong, structured and carry a sense that we can do it all. Pinstripes are not only for the office anymore…wait are people still even going to the office?! Oversized turns out to be the perfect size.

It may mean that even if you’re not on zoom you can skip the pants (no pants party). Or if you insist, then a sheer skirt with embellished tights will keep you kosher. If the darker shades are adding to your gray-day blues, then experiment with lime green or peacock blue. When you are looking to glam it up and let your curves do their job in an hourglass shape- cinched at the waist and bold shoulders are the perfect way to let your courage roar.

Accessories are the most FUN and versatile way to share your love of fashion. This season fur accessories continue to take the lead.

Fur stoles, handbags and even a shearling boot are cozy additions to your closet.

They can add a balanced look to an otherwise boring everyday outfit and add that pop of texture, or color if you prefer to stick to a darer palette this season. Faux fur sandal silhouettes are a little luxury for your piggies. Instead of feeling left without your shoes at a party this winter, pack a fancy furry slide into your clutch! No dirt, no loss of glam, no ruining your outfit.

Opening shot: A badass gal brings fire engine red to the party. Summer walks into Rose Tavern for a holiday dinner in a long cherry corseted dress, draped along the floor, slit just above her knee, her arms swinging adorned with gold bangles up her forearm. People whisper, jaws hit the floor. She makes her way to the leather stool, slides in and orders a Gin Martini with a twist (light on the vermouth) at the bar.

After a moment of reflection, holidays have gotten the best of her. She sees him walk in, suitcoat and the Rolex she gave him last Christmas, his overly confident smirk. Just as they make eye contact…she grabs the waiter by his denim shirt and plants a Chanel red kiss on his lips. End scene.

Chunkity-chunk-chunk chunk. Why is rhyming so fun? OK sorry, I will try to stay on track. Thick metals are going to be a hot item this season. Large bold earrings, rings of thick twisted gold, and collarbones will be heavy with the weight of metal chokers. These hefty beauties shine like the sun (somewhere other than Rochester) and catch the golden hues that are sure to brighten your day…or night. I love pairing them with glistening emerald greens for this season, but the truth is these rock stars will take you from holiday to spring and then glimmer with your tan through summer.

Even with all the glam that I adore and mention, the most important takeaway? Buy pieces that you LOVE, that you wear, that you invest in and you wish you could sleep in. Save up for that beautiful gold chain necklace and wear it with your favorite hoodie. Buy yourself that emerald ring and wear it with your cashmere blazer (that will last you a lifetime). Layer on your favorite white tee (preferably one that has at least one hole and has seen too much) with red lipstick, those diamond drop earrings, oversized baggy jeans and a pair of furry slides. Feel the power of confidence and the importance of being your amazing self. And then do it again, Wonder Women.

You guys always have something new to highlight. What’s the big trend at the Quatela Center right now?

We are so excited to be the first practice in Upstate New York to offer Renuvion to our patients. Renuvion is a minimally invasive procedure that helps to tighten the skin of the neck or body. During the Renuvion procedure, a wand is inserted just under the skin and delivers a unique combination of radiofrequency energy and helium plasma. This technology targets the fibro septal bands that connect our skin and muscle, creating a shrink-wrapped effect to contour the patient by tightening the overlying skin to the tissue below. By treating these collagen fibers under the skin, it not only causes contraction, but over time also triggers the collagen rebuilding process known as neocollagenesis.

So it literally shrink-wraps the skin. This sounds amazing, what body parts are ideal for this treatment?

Some of the best areas to treat include the neck, arms, thighs, abdomen, back and love handles. So essentially, most areas from the neck down are amenable to this FDA-cleared technology. Most often, I add Renuvion to liposuction procedures for my patients, allowing us to remove stubborn pockets of fat and tighten the skin at the same time. It gives patients an ideal contour and more muscular, toned-looking shape after the procedure. The best part of this technology is that it triggers collagen rebuilding, so not only do these patients look amazing postoperatively, but their results continue to improve over the course of a year.

also want to tighten loose skin. For moms with minimal stretch to their abdomen, Renuvion and liposuction may be enough to tighten their skin and give them a contoured tummy. For some, a tummy tuck is still the best and most comprehensive way to tighten their abdomen, depending on the post-pregnancy changes to their body. For arms and legs, Renuvion is not a substitute for skin removal. However, many patients find that it gives them a nice tightening effect to show off the definition in their arms or help to contour their inner and outer thighs without significant scarring.

What about scarring?

Another great perk with Renuvion is that it’s a minimally invasive procedure. Just like liposuction, we do this procedure entirely through tiny little poke holes in the treatment area. This means there are no big scars to take care of. Patients are finding that their early results are amazing and keep improving with time!

It sounds too good to be true. What is the downtime for Renuvion?

One of the benefits of this technology is that it doesn’t add much downtime to a procedure. Typically, my liposuction patients only take a few days to a week off work, at most. When they return, they wear compression on the area treated with Renuvion to minimize swelling and aid in comfort as they increase their activity. They can return to the gym in just a week and will start seeing their amazing results within the first few weeks after surgery as the swelling and bruising resolve. Patients are adding Renuvion to their surgical plans without adding any extra time for recovery, and their results speak for themselves.

Museum Marvels Drawing millions to their exhibits, these six world-renowned repositories are works of art themselves.

The Tokyo National Museum, Tokyo, Japan The biggest and largest museum in Japan is the Tokyo National Museum, a can’t miss destination when visiting this populous Asian city. There are more than 100,000 artifacts of Japanese art and history on view across five distinct buildings. If you don’t have the stamina or time for them all, the Honkan building is a cheat sheet of sorts displaying cultural items, Buddhist statues, samurai swords and the like from 10,000 B.C. to the late 19th century. Fun fact: This museum is part of Ueno Park, which means there are outdoor exhibits to enjoy when the weather cooperates, including Kuromon, the “Black Gate” to the Edo residence of the Ikeda family, who took the reins during the Edo Period (1603-1868), and the Azekura Repository stone house.

Doge’s Palace, Venice, Italy Ride a gondola and visit Doge’s Palace. Those are two things any tourist must do when visiting this famous city. Located on the famous St. Mark’s Square near St. Mark’s Basilica, the palace is a spectacle before you even walk in, with a remarkable exterior that defines Venetian Gothic architecture. The interior spans 1,000 years of history, giving visitors a glimpse into the wealth and power once centered here. Ornate chambers and detailed sculptures abound in the museum, which has been officially operating as a tourist spot since 1923, as do paintings and other artifacts.

Fun fact: Tintoretto’s 16th century masterpiece Il Paradiso, one of the world’s largest oil paintings, is on display in the main hall of Doge’s Palace.

The Egyptian Museum, Cairo, Egypt Before or after a stop at the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx, take in some more Egyptian antiquities at this art museum in Cairo; it’s the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East and the largest on the continent of Africa. Most of the exhibits are of the Pharaonic and Greco-Roman periods—we’re talking tombs, ornaments, gigantic statues and more pieces that pay homage to Egypt’s rich cultural heritage.

Fun fact: Some exhibition highlights include an entire room devoted to king Tutankhamen (aka King Tut), the most famous Egyptian pharaoh; a display of extremely detailed Ancient Egyptian jewelry; and the Royal Mummy Room, where you can come face-to-face with them.

The Museo Soumaya, Mexico City, Mexico Like the others on this list, this museum is full of thousands of artifacts from its country’s culture. But this attraction, built in 1994, is more of a personal art gallery, displaying 70,000 works from the 15th to mid-20th centuries that belong exclusively to Carlos Slim, the richest man in Mexico, who also finances this building. The Museo Soumaya’s defining characteristic is clearly its rotating silver rhomboid, which looks different from all angles and reflects light at various points depending on the time of day and season. It was designed by Fr·ee (Fernando Romero Enterprise), a venture of Slim’s son-in-law.

Fun fact: The museum is named after Soumaya Domit, founder Carlos Slim’s wife, who died in 1999.

The Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, Spain You know the Guggenheim in New York City; now let us introduce you to her Basque cousin, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. It was built in 1991, when the Basque government approached Solomon Guggenheim about building an attraction in its main port to reel in more tourists. Now it’s a distinct landmark there, one that has helped make both the city and architect Frank Gehry world-renowned. Titanium, limestone and glass curve to create the subtle shape of a boat, reflecting the heritage of the port of Bilbao.

Fun fact: The museum originated what’s called the “Bilbao effect,” the phenomenon whereby beautiful architecture can transform a struggling city into a bustling tourist spot.

The Louvre, Paris, France This is, of course, one of the most recognizable art museums in the world, as well as the most visited. Did you know it’s one of the oldest too? Serving as a royal palace before debuting as a museum in 1793, The Louvre sits right in the center of the City of Light, across from the Tuileries Garden. It’s home to a vast collection of various works ranging from ancient civilizations to the mid-19th century and divided into eight departments.

Finding Love When You Stop Looking

Kirsten Reader had happily decided to spend the rest of her life single when she happened to walk out an odd side door after work at The Harley School. On the other side was a familiar face sitting in his truck.

Their daughters had known each other since fourth grade at Harley, and Kirsten had taught Stephen’s daughters, Makenna and Blair Brown. At the time, Kirsten had finished a 19-year career as a full-time English teacher and transitioned into the director of enrollment and financial aid position at Harley.

“It sounds cliché, but about a month before this, I really had completely written off men. I thought, ‘I have really awesome friends, and I will be just fine ignoring men for the rest of my life,’” Kirsten says. “I was done.”

In retrospect, Kirsten says it is likely because she had given up on men that she freely accepted Stephen’s invitation to attend Iron Smoke’s tasting room opening that weekend.

It was 2018, and Stephen Brown had just opened Iron Smoke Distillery’s tasting room in Fairport. Stephen had co-founded Iron Smoke in 2011 to contract distill bourbon whiskey. The founders opened a distillery in 2013 to develop their own brand; the tasting room followed five years later.

Kirsten went with a friend. The place was packed, she remembers, so packed she nearly turned around and left—until she happened to see Stephen. Kirsten had the first of many tours of the tasting room that evening, which she spent with Stephen and his daughter Blair. It was casual, she says.

They had fun.

“We tried to work on a limited budget helping to construct the tasting room ourselves with me on top of a power lift washing the ceiling in a swimsuit,” Stephen remembers. Stephen and Kirsten had known each other for years, so Kirsten didn’t hesitate to stop and say hello.

It’s not like they hadn’t thought about dating before, Stephen says. “We knew we were both great people. We had both divorced but never really put two and two together I think mainly because she was dating someone or I was dating someone, so it never aligned properly.”

After the opening, a few dates ensued, and despite some awkwardness announcing their romance to their combined six kids, they began to weave their lives together.

The wedding party comprised all six children: Patrick Buckley, 27, Reid Tompkins, 24, Makenna Brown, 21, Zoe Reader, 21, Blair Brown, 19, and Liam Reader, 15.

The connection on the other side of that “odd side door” five years ago occurred without any faith it could, and so did the romance and eventual wedding that followed.

“We checked in with each of the kids before we got married to see how they were feeling, and the overwhelming sentiment was one of happiness for how happy we were and are,” Kirsten says.

This year, Kirsten and Stephen married on a sunny June day, with every part falling into place more perfectly than either of them thought it could: The venue, the wedding rings, the ceremony—even the 19-foot-long 1965 Cadillac limousine that drove the wedding party to the reception— were all exactly what they always wanted without ever knowing they did.

Braiding these lives and faiths into a new story is even more meaningful for this family because of the lives they built before Stephen and Kirsten connected five years ago. Those lives made them who they are today, the couple says.

For his wedding band, Stephen thought he wanted something simple until he began exploring how he could incorporate wood from an Iron Smoke barrel. He spent two months designing his band with Mann’s CEO Nancy Mann. With the same barrel stave, Stephen had four rings made, his with platinum and three for his officiants in titanium.

The bands were a symbol of where and how Kirsten and Stephen found each other—when neither of them was looking. Stephen said: “I felt that adding the oak from one of our barrels would be a constant reminder that we met and started our new lives together at Iron Smoke, and that, regardless of the circumstances of everything before, we both got a new beginning, and we both found true love.”

• Ceremony officiants (with the exception of Rev. Myra Brown) received a band similar to Stephen’s wedding band made out of Iron Smoke Distillery’s barrel stave inlay, designed by Stephen with Mann’s Jewelers. Steve’s band was platinum; theirs were titanium.

• Kirsten’s wedding band was designed by Mann’s Jewelers.

The ceremony, like their family, needed to braid together seemingly different traditions, faiths and stories. Stephen, for example, was raised Catholic but converted to Buddhism and identifies only as Buddhist.

His mother was Jewish but converted to Catholicism before marriage, so Stephen’s siblings were raised Catholic. Kirsten wanted to honor all three faiths and her own, which is rooted Catholicism but focuses on service and embracing the marginalized at Spiritus Christi.

Rev. Myra Brown of Spiritus Christi officiated the wedding. Stephen’s twin brother, Christopher Brown, a brigadier general in the U.S. Air Force, read “The Seven Blessings,” part of a Jewish tradition after the couple exchanged rings.

Kirsten’s younger brother, Jevon Allen, is a teacher in Japan—and an officiant to American weddings there. To honor Stephen’s faith, Jevon read a Buddhist prayer. Tommy Brunett, Stephen’s friend and business partner, read the poem, “How Falling in Love is Like Owning a Dog” by Taylor Mali, as one faith tradition that all eight members of their combined family celebrate.

Combining and honoring all of these traditions reflected the differences and traditions that went into combining Kirsten’s and Stephen’s families.

Stephen had a child before his marriage, and so did his ex-wife. They both continued to live with Stephen after the divorce.

“One of the things I learned in divorced families: Traditions are hard.

So one of the first things I did in my divorce was, I stopped doing what we always did when their dad was there,” Kirsten recalls.

When Stephen and Kirsten moved in together, she says, “This idea of doing something new and different to me became really important, and that was hard. Even when we moved in, you know, once in a while, one of the kids would say, ‘This feels different,’ (and I would say) ‘Yes it does, because it is different.”

The kids were ages 10-22 when the couple started dating, Kirsten says.

For three years, everyone lived together: The oldest boys only just moved out.

There have been challenges, Kirsten says, but there have been kindnesses too and friendships with each other.

The Big Day:

One of the main things we wanted was an outdoor ceremony with a beautiful view, something timeless. We chose tones of champagne and white with pops of blue to add color.

For the reception itself, we just wanted it to be fun and relaxed for our friends and family. Some of our favorite parts were the cigar bar and late night garbage plates.

The Dress:

My dress was the Elsie dress from Made With Love! It was formfitting with lace on the entire dress and a short train. My veil was from Bridal

by J. The owner Jess was amazing to work with and so helpful in the stressful planning process!

The First Dance:

We wanted our song to fit in with our timeless theme, so we chose “Can’t Help Falling In Love.” The message of the song and the words just felt perfect to us and our relationship.

The team at Mann’s was amazing. We worked with Vicki, who helped us with the engagement ring, wedding bands and a surprise watch for John. Wedding band weekend at Mann’s was especially helpful. We didn’t really know what we wanted for wedding bands, so seeing all of the options really helped with our decision. Vicki was so helpful throughout every step of the process. I already have my next piece picked out!

The Big Day:

We wanted our wedding to feel like a cozy, intimate dinner party, so the food and ambiance were important factors to us. Our absolute favorite date-night spot is Good Luck, so it was a very easy decision to host our wedding in their event space, Jackrabbit Club. We were joined by 75 guests for an evening ceremony followed by a delicious candlelit meal and cocktails.

The Dress:

I had such a fun, easy experience wedding dress shopping at Lovely Bride! I knew I wanted something simple and timeless with a modern touch. I was so lucky that the stylist knew exactly the dress to put me in! I instantly fell in love with the classic silhouette paired with the modern, square neckline. We added buttons all down the back and paired the dress with a pearl veil.

The First Dance:

Our first dance song was “You Send Me” by Sam Cooke. Sam Cooke is one our favorite artists to listen to while we cook dinner together, so we knew that song would give us a brief moment at our wedding where it felt like it was just the two of us. We love being able to relive that special moment every time the song comes on!

DIRECTIONS: Put the washed and dried arugula in a bowl; add the olive oil, the grated Parmigiano Reggiano and season to taste with salt, black pepper and freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Arrange the bresaola slices around a platter and place the dressed arugula on top. Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving to give time for the bresaola to absorb the flavors of the arugula condiments.

Finish with Parmigiano Reggiano shavings. Garnish with lemon wedges.

orecchiette with sausage & broccoli INGREDIENTS: n 7 oz. broccoli n 7 oz. sweet sausage n 2 Tbs. unsalted butter n Salt to taste n 1 lb. dried orecchiette n 1/2 cup grated Parmigiano Reggiano

DIRECTIONS: Remove and discard the lower stems from the broccoli. Quarter the broccoli florets length-wise if large.

Remove the casing from the sausage and break it up with your fingers. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Brown the sausage meat, stirring frequently and breaking it up further with a fork if necessary.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and add the pasta. When the pasta is about halfway cooked but still fairly hard in the center, probably about 5 minutes in, add the broccoli and cook until both pasta and broccoli are cooked, about 5 additional minutes.

Drain and add both to the skillet with the sausage. Toss over medium heat until combined, about 2 minutes.

Divide the pasta among individual serving bowls and top with grated Parmigiano.

If there’s one thing we’ve all got a knack for, it’s respiration. We’ve been taking regular breaths more or less unthinkingly since birth, and to say that it’s the key to everything else we do is laughably self-evident. But science now says there’s a special benefit to breathing deeply during exercise—and focusing your mind on the process of breathing in and out.

A study reported in the journal Cell Reports Medicine this year found that even five minutes a day of conscious breathwork and mindful meditation can improve our mood and reduce anxiety. To put it simply, diaphragmatic breathing, or belly breathing—when the air coming in through your nose fully fills your lungs and your belly— helps calm the body and lower the heart rate and blood pressure.

“When you breathe through your chest, you tend to use muscles in your shoulders and neck which can lead to neck pain, headache and tension,” says Zee Clarke, author and CEO at Denver-based Reclaiming Flow, where she’s a breathwork teacher.

Belly breathing stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which circulates more oxygen throughout the body.”

“We don’t breathe as well as we should,” adds San Diego-based Belisa Vranich, author and breath coach at The Breathing Class. Most humans breathe vertically rather than horizontally, she says, where the middle of the body expands and narrows with each breath, and this is hurting our health. “Thanks to screens and evolution, we now breathe in a way that’s more shallow and faster, which puts us into a more anxious state and affects our digestion, back health, energy and sleep.”

Here’s a technique for breathing through your diaphragm (in other words, practicing “belly breathing” or “horizontal breathing”): —Lie down on a flat surface and place one hand on the middle of your upper chest.

—Place the other hand on your stomach just beneath your rib cage.

—Inhale through your nose so your stomach pushes toward your hand but your chest doesn’t move.

—Exhale through pursed lips while your stomach and hand go back down.

Vranich also says that knowing your

breathing IQ is essential to becoming a “good” horizontal breather. (You can learn how to do so by taking a quiz at thebreathingiq.com which will grade you and provide exercises to help you improve.)

Different breathwork techniques work best for different exercises. Once you’ve got belly breathing down, here’s how to practice it during…

• Running. Many experienced runners practice what’s called rhythmic breathing, which creates a rhythmic connection between your breath and the way your foot hits the ground. You can inhale for two footstrikes and exhale for two footstrikes, or whatever pattern feels comfortable to you. No matter what your rhythm, though, make sure you’re inhaling through your nose when running or jogging. “This brings oxygen to your brain and muscles, and the nose filters a lot of toxins and allergens and adds moisture,” Clarke notes. “If you breathe through your mouth, the air is drier and colder, which can lead to shortness of breath and chest tightness.” If you practice this breathing rhythm and style over time, you’ll find that you’ll be able to pick up the pace and not become as breathless.

• Cardio. With any sport or exercise that requires endurance, breathing is critical, says Vranich. And when working out with just your body weight (as opposed to equipment), “the general principle is to exhale when you exert the effort” adds Clarke. As with running, Clarke finds counting breaths to be helpful when doing continuous cardio exercise such as cycling.

“Inhale two three four, exhale two three four,” she says. “The counting means you’re getting the oxygen you need, and the rhythm allows you to maintain your momentum and have endurance.”

• HIIT. Lightheadedness and fatigue can be common symptoms after a highintensity interval training (HIIT) workout, but being more conscious about your breathwork may help alleviate these notso-pleasant aftereffects. It comes down to synching your breaths to your movements.

Exhale through your mouth at the peak of a movement—for instance, pushing up during a push-up or squat—and then

inhale when you finish. When you’re in between circuits, Clarke advises, “engage in belly breathing to maximize the oxygen during your rest period.”

• Strength training . You’ve probably seen weightlifting champions hold their breath while benching or squatting, but leave that to the pros, please. Vranich says you need to breathe so that you have power for your workout and can prevent back injury. “You want to breathe in a way that’ll pressure your body to take care of your spine,” she says. Do this by timing your breaths precisely when lifting and lowering weights—this is in fact necessary when it comes to proper strength training. The goal here is to exhale during the concentric phase of the exercise (when you’re lifting a weight toward your shoulder, for example), which strengthens the core, increases stability and prevents lightheadedness. “Purse your lips like you’re blowing through a straw to force an extra-long exhale, which stimulates that parasympathetic nervous system,” adds Clarke. Then inhale a belly breath on the eccentric phase, when you lower the weight back to where it was. Pro tip: If you find yourself breathing too heavily during strength training, it may be because your weights are too heavy.

• Yoga. Breathing is the essence of yoga, and in yoga it even has a special name: pranayama, a word for focusing on breath. But Clarke, who studied yoga in India, and Vranich, both agree that we tend to hold our breath trying to perfect the move and forget to breathe entirely.

“Don’t hold your breath or take tiny little breaths when you’re doing a move like a Chaturanga,” says Vranich. Unless you’re doing a specific pranayama about holding your breath, try what’s called the Ujjayi pranayama, also known as ocean breath because its noises resemble that of the ocean. “Breathe in and out through your nose but constrict your throat, exhaling through your mouth as if you’re fogging up a mirror,” Clarke suggests. For the actual movement, mimic that same sound but with your mouth closed and exhaling through your nose. This elongates the inhale and the exhale to activate the parasympathetic nervous system.

Geography, as well as proximity to ancient cities like Ephesus, plays an enormous role in Istanbul’s aesthetic traditions, Stokes says, and those customs are ever-present in the Grand Bazaar. Here, at the largest covered market in the world, visitors can purchase and learn from a variety of antiques, textiles and silver dealers. Many merchants will treat you to Turkish coffee as you browse their wares, which can cost as little as a few cents to as much as a million dollars. Delicate tablecloths from Uzbekistan, antique silver candlesticks from the 1700s and porcelain with Ottoman designs can all be purchased at the Grand Bazaar and brought back to your home to create an elegant table setting.

TENTHOUSANDTHINGS TENTHOUSANDTHINGS, a brand that celebrated 30 years of design in 2022, is known for minimalist organic designs, often incorporating stones polished in India specifically for David Rees and Ron Anderson, co-owners and designers.

Each are self-taught jewelers who turned to jewelry after successful careers in fashion.

From their atelier in downtown New York City, they meticulously handcraft modern heirlooms inspired by abstract shapes seen in nature, as well as ancient motifs.

The moniker TENTHOUSANDTHINGS is taken from a line of ancient Chinese philosophy that when translated means “from one thing begets ten thousand things.” David and Ron chose it because it suggested infinite creativity and constant evolution. Nature is their forever inspiration, as well as ancient antiquities.

They work in gold and silver, utilizing a range of unique opaque and translucent gemstones and American natural pearls from the Mississippi River. Always fascinated by the luster and shapes of pearls, many of their designs have featured South Sea, Keshi, Tahitian and Baroque. Each piece is made by hand, and some are one of a kind.

The obsessive search for extraordinary stones recently led them to a stone-carving workshop in Jaipur, where David and Ron sit side by side with skilled lapidary craftsmen who take the duo’s wax carvings and recreate their shapes completely by hand, using traditional techniques perfected over decades. During this creative collaboration, rough stones are magically reborn

as luminous hand-carved shapes, with all the intended subtlety and nuance, destined to become signature earrings and necklaces. The pair also use granulation in their work, a labor-intensive old-world technique, whereby small pieces of precious metal formed in the shape of tiny spheres like small granules are added to a design to create texture and interest.

Masters of movement and articulation, visual delight comes from subtle construction techniques, and the carefully executed layout of stones and amulets. A favorite of celebrities and photographers, the collection has evolved over the past 30 years, but the sculptural perspective that runs through all of their designs is evident and consistent.

Always trying to push the envelope of possibilities, the overall look of TENTHOUSANDTHINGS jewelry is fluid, replete with shapes that are organically inspired, and a stunning minimalist aesthetic.

Now Jackson Hole, Wyoming, has a nearby five-star luxury hotel worthy of its stellar skiing and eye-popping vistas. By Everett Potter Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Wyoming, is one of the grand prizes of American skiing, an adventure that begins with a jaw-dropping view. Set at the base of the Teton Mountains, these jagged spires of rock are arguably the most scenic stretch of the Rocky Mountains range.

Jackson Hole has long attracted the big dogs of the skiing and snowboarding world, who come here for so-called Big Mountain skiing. If you’re unfamiliar with that term, it means what it says. Jackson Hole is a behemoth, with a vertical drop of more than 4,000 feet and 2,500 acres of in-bounds terrain, on a 10,400-foot mountain.

While there are easier green and blue runs, you don’t head to Jackson for easy turns. It gives fresh meaning to the term “challenging.”

The out-of-bounds terrain is more than 3,000 acres and, basically, if you can see it, you can ski it—but only those with avalanche gear and training are encouraged to head past the ropes.

In-bounds has challenges aplenty. There are runs with enormous moguls and chutes, the most famous being Corbet’s Couloir. It starts with a fearinducing vertical drop, a double black-diamond entry into a narrow chute where you need to start making turns instantly. I count myself among those who’ve peered over the edge, only to retreat while a braver soul gamely takes the plunge down what looks like a sheer vertical wall. Just ride the tram from the base to get a drone’s-eye view of the action as you near the top of the mountain.

But hard-core skiing is only part of the story.

Jackson Hole has slowly evolved over the past 20 years, and while it still attracts plenty of 20- and 30-somethings eager for a steep and deep experience, it long ago recognized that a well-heeled crowd would come for better hotels and fine dining, make a few turns and admire the dramatic vistas over cocktails. Thus Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole, Hotel Terra and Caldera House came to town, the leading edge of the luxury options at the base of the mountain, where also there are restaurants, shops and neigh-

borhoods with CEO-level homes that routinely sell well into mid-eight figures. The ultra-chic Amangani resort lies a couple of miles away.

At Jackson Hole, you can still have a frosty après ski beer with the cliff jumpers at the Mangy Moose bar, with Warren Miller movies playing in an endless loop. But your dining choices are more like those found in Los Angeles or New York and trend to upscale steakhouses, sushi bars and Italian trattorias.

Staying at the base of the mountain is great.

But you’re in Jackson Hole. Twelve miles down the road lies the town of Jackson itself, an upscale cowboy town, centered on a town square whose four corners are ringed by inventive clusters of elk antlers that had been shed and collected.

Surrounding the square are wooden sidewalks à la Old West, roofed over against the elements.

There’s also a range of restaurants, shops and bars, the most colorful being the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, whose neon sign shows a rider on a bronco. There’s even another ski mountain in town, Snow King, that is beloved by locals.

Now, with the opening of Cloudveil in May 2021, Jackson finally has what it’s long been missing: a five-star luxury hotel. Part of the Autograph Collection of hotels owned by Marriott, it takes its name from the Cloudveil Dome, a peak within the Grand Tetons.

It’s the first major building project on the town square since 1997—and a game changer. From Cloudveil you can walk to the restaurants and shops, and you’re directly across from the town square. Skiing or riding? There’s a shuttle to slopes, so you can leave the often gnarly winter driving to the pros.

The design was a group effort by three firms: TruexCullins, CLB Architects and IBI Group.

There was clearly an attempt to invoke rugged local elements, so they used materials such as stone, metal and wood throughout, as well as huge windows.

The lobby has a giant, 3,000-pound boulder that functions as the front desk, and the lobby fireplace is a welcome touch. A three-story granite wall is a reminder that you’re in the heart of climbing country.

The hotel has 100 rooms and suites, and the décor has accent walls of wood, banquettes, wrought iron touches and neo-midcentury-modern chairs. Some of the rooms have corner fireplaces and balconies. There are smart TVs, and the bathrooms are stocked with Grown Alchemist products. On a sensible riff on the mini-bar, each floor of the hotel has a pantry stocked with complimentary local snacks and drinks.

If you need to get your heart rate up before tackling the moguls on Jackson Hole, it’s good to know that there’s a gym with weights and Peloton equipment and, for après ski, a heated outdoor pool and Jacuzzi.

The hotel’s 5,000-square-foot terrace is the only rooftop space of its kind in Jackson and is designed for summertime yoga and meditation.

It’s expected to be open to the community as well for music performances and stargazing.

Given Jackson’s proximity to both Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks, the latter about 60 miles away, there’s little question that summer and fall will be big here as well.

Nor do you need to wander far for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Bistro, a French-inspired restaurant in the hotel, is the brainchild of the Fine Dining Restaurant Group, led by Gavin Fine and Roger Freedman. Fine is the Danny Meyer of Jackson, a savvy restaurateur who has put the town on the culinary map with such acclaimed eateries as Bin22, The Kitchen, II Villaggio Osteria, Bar Enoteca, Bodega, Sugar + Spice and Bovine + Swine. It offers outdoor café dining, a zinc bar, an oyster bar and a newly established reputation as a dining destination itself.

So the sage advice is to come to Jackson Hole prepared for challenges and stay for the deep creature comforts of the new Cloudveil. It’s the newly crowned cool kid on the block, perfectly positioned to offer the ultimate in Western chic in the hippest ski town in the West. Enjoy the vibe, even if you can’t quite bring yourself to leap into Corbet’s Couloir.

A trio of new electric SUVs puts a jolt into the market, equally attracting speed demons and family drivers.

Manufacturing eco-vehicles isn’t new to the automotive world. Even traditional brands like Aston Martin and Ferrari have shed some of their stubbornness, trading in their mighty combustion engines for cleaner, quieter and more efficient plug-in versions. It was only a matter of time until the move-

ment hit the SUV market. Now three widely respected makers from around the globe—two historic names and one up-andcoming brand—have caught a bolt of lightning and released their historic first electric sport utes. Each combines luxury, high performance, practicality and eco-friendliness.

RIVIAN R1S No mere imitator of the likes of Tesla, this upstart American electric-vehicle manufacturer is making a name of its own with its lineup of cars. Unlike other manufacturers, Rivian has given its first SUV, the R1S, full off-road capability. Engineers outfitted it with an adjustable suspension system that offers up to 15 inches of ground clearance, while the Quad-Motor trim comes with an electric motor for each wheel—in other words, better control over varied terrains. There’s also great news if you’re more of a city and highway driver: The SUV comes standard with three rows of seating for the entire family, high-end features to rival the best luxury vehicles, a battery-powered motor that can produce around 260 miles on a single charge and a power train that makes 600 horsepower. Repeat: That all comes standard. Starting at $79,000.

MASERATI GRECALE FOLGORE Keeping up with speed-demon producers like Lamborghini and Ferrari isn’t necessarily Maserati engineers’ goal. Instead, the legendary Italian automaker is appealing to a wider demographic as it continues to electrify its lineup of cars for eco-minded consumers. Its latest model, the family-friendly Grecale Folgore (Italian for “lightning”), is the company’s first electric crossover SUV—and it brings a jolt of energy to the busy EV field. When it debuts in 2024, it’s expected to offer a massive 105.0-kWh battery pack powering two electric motors. On a full charge, the battery should last around 300 miles while generating speed and strength comparable to Tesla’s famed Model X. Maserati’s sustainability mindset also can be seen on the inside: Upholstery, for instance, will feature recycled materials. Starting at $75,000.

LOTUS ELETRE The British automaker has been known for producing simple, lightweight (and fast) sports cars for more than seven decades.

Though it’s not ditching that philosophy entirely, Lotus is doing something radical: packing a heavy battery, luxury amenities and much more into its all-new midsize SUV, the Eletre. Available as a four- or five-seater, the Eletre weighs nearly three times as much as the brand’s iconic Elise sports car but can perform just as well—the electric power train generates about 600 horsepower.

On full charge, the hefty battery in the base Eletre has a range of about 315 miles, on par with some of the market’s top SUVs from Lamborghini and BMW. It also competes with the best interiors in the industry, incorporating lush materials such as stitched leather, microfiber and bronze accents into the cabin. Starting at $84,500.

Unless you were on the London scene in the ’90s, chances are you haven’t heard of DJ Big Driis. No matter; disc-jockeying was just a side gig for this aspiring actor. Today the world knows him as Idris Elba, multi-talented actor, producer, entrepreneur, heartthrob—and watch collector.

Idrissa Akuna Elba (he shortened his name to Idris in acting school) was born in London in 1972 to a Sierra Leonean dad and a Ghanaian mum. His big break came in 2004 playing Stringer Bell in HBO’s The Wire, which the BBC famously proclaimed “the best show of the 21st century.” Years later came critical acclaim for playing a detective in the multi-season series Luther, and again for portraying Nelson Mandela in Long Walk to Freedom. is a not-so-closeted Gucci fan, having worn the Italian designer on many a red carpet. In 2017, the brand took note and hired him as its spokesperson.

(You may have seen his ads for 2022’s Gucci 25H watch collection with the gender-reveal-esque pink and blue faces.) A timepiece from the fashion house that he sports regularly is the 38mm 25H pink-colored crystal watch.

He also possesses the 8mm Tourbillon with a skeletonized dial and an 8mm thin case, and he got to wear the pièce de résistance, the yellow-gold Gucci G-Timeless Planetarium, to the 2023 Academy Awards. This pricey piece, worth an estimated $300,000, features a central tourbillon surrounded by a dozen rotating beryl stones, each representing a different zodiac sign.

Variety in his collecting—as with the roles he plays—helps keep things interesting. Elba has other luxury brands in his vault too. A few of note include the IWC Mark XVIII in stainless steel with a black dial and 40mm brushed case; the Cartier Santos 100, which boasts 100 meters of water resistance; the 40mm Rolex Day-Date in 18k white gold; Rolex Datejust II with a champagne dial; and the Rolex Day-Date in solid yellow gold with a black dial.

And because no sensible star forgets his humble roots, Elba has also been spotted by paparazzi wearing the Gold-Tone Casio A168WG-9MV, worth just $65. Money isn’t the end-all, be-all for this guy.

“The assumption is that if you make a lot of money, you can stop working,” he said in an interview with Esquire UK. “I don’t work for money. I do have mouths to feed, businesses to run, taxes to pay. But I do it out of love. I do it because I want to. I’m interested in taking my brain to a place where it hasn’t been before.”

spice it up Lattes and muffins are great, but when it comes to autumnal flavors, this cocktail takes the cake.

pumpkin pie martini SERVES 2

INGREDIENTS n 1/4 cup whipped topping or whipped cream n 21/2 oz. vanilla vodka n 11/2 oz. aged rum n 1/4 cup pumpkin puree n 3 Tbs. maple syrup n 1/4 cup half and half n 1/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice, plus additional for garnish n Handful of ice cubes

DIRECTIONS Chill 2 martini or margarita glasses in the freezer. Line a small sheet tray with waxed paper. Make 2 dollops of whipped topping or whipped cream and place in the freezer for 30 minutes. In a cocktail shaker, combine the vodka, rum, pumpkin puree, maple syrup, half and half, pumpkin pie spice, salt and ice cubes. Cover and shake vigorously for about 20 seconds.

Strain into the 2 martini glasses.

Top each glass with one piece of frozen whipped cream. Sprinkle additional pumpkin pie spice and serve immediately.
