BANK STATEMENTS

What Your Bank Statements Say About You

Whenever you are looking for a loan, the banks will ask to see the latest three months bank statements (some banks like six months).

What they are looking for is a snapshot of how you conduct your accounts, what your spending habits are like, and whether these habits and behaviours are likely to change with the challenge of repaying a mortgage.

For example, if every day you have outgoings to the TAB, they may conclude you have a gambling habit that may not change. Evidence of dining out six days a week, regular spending at the bar or liquor store etc are all red flags that the bank will consider when they assess your suitability for a mortgage.

Account conduct is a big issue for the banks, and any late payments, unarranged overdrafts or dishonours are all likely to count against you when it comes to getting an approval.

If you are thinking about getting mortgage ready, make those bank statements great reading for the credit assessor to give yourself the best chance.
