Ross joined Hororata Fire Brigade on the 25-5-1967, he achieved the rank of Senior Fire Fighter and then became Chief from 1990-2003. He stepped down from being Chief and went back to the rank of Senior Firefighter(SFF).

Since 2015, Ross has been an operational support role. He is an Emergency Response Driver and mainly drives tankers to callouts. Ross has been an asset to the Brigade for the fifty six years, and is a well respected andlikedBrigademember. The Brigade look forward to having Ross as a member for a long time still to come. His practical jokes and humour are part and parcel of the Brigade's lifenow.

Hororata Fire Brigade also presented Ross with another 2 year Gold Bar, a replica brass helmet and had a special beer made and canned for the wonderfuloccasion.
