HELPING STUDENTS

Since its inception, the biennial Castle Hill Village Easter Art weekend has always been a nonprofit community-based, fun, family event supporting local artists. Planning is well underway for this coming Easter, (9th - 10th April).

With fifty artists included, it’s a celebration of the many artists that gain inspiration from the area, through an exhibition of work, and various workshops, for visitors to attend throughout the weekend.

It is no surprise that this beautiful region attracts and inspires many artists. The Craigieburn area, Castle Hill, and Kura Tawhiti have always been influential, with a variety of artists producing some wonderful work over the years. The last event was the biggest ever, and it’s great to build on that further with the marquee shop and workshops alongside the main exhibition in the Village Hall, supported by Selwyn Libraries, who will be running their own felting workshop alongside the event. Over the years, it has provided support for the environment in which Castle Hill Village is situated, in monetary and practical ways to Kea Conservation, the Craigieburn Trails and wilding pine control. The event organisers can be contacted via their website castlehillcreative.nz, which has more details about the event and how to join in.

The Exhibition Opening Evening will be held on Good Friday in the Castle Hill Village Hall, accompanied by various workshops in and around the village over the following two days.

As well as children having the opportunity to attend some of the workshops over the weekend they may be interesting in entering their own artwork for the exhibition?

There are two sections open to children:

Under 12 - Saturday 4.30pm. “Fancy Dress bike competition”. You need to still be able to ride your bike, but decorate it as you please and yourself too if you wish, and perhaps win some prizes.

12—18 years; There will be an area set aside for emerging artists in the main hall. This Art weekend is supported by Selwyn Libraries and the Castle Hill Community Association.
