MALTA YOUTH ORCHESTRA The Malta Youth Orchestra has grown from strength to strength, and the 2017/18 concert season was arguably the most notable season to date. The past season was the first in which the MYO had its own dedicated admin team, making it possible for the young orchestra to set more ambitious targets for itself. Through the MPO Academy, no less than 7 MYO musicians received paid internships, through which they could perform regularly with the MPO and dedicate themselves to music full time. A further 3 musicians received scholarships. The MYO also enjoyed its first-ever international collaboration with the

Jugendorchester Stattegg (JOS), a youth orchestra based in the Austrian region of Styria. The JOS was hosted in Malta during Easter, and the two orchestras joined forces to give two concerts at the Salesian Theatre in Sliema, in which they performed a two-hour programme spanning different genres and featured music by Maltese and Austrian composers, as well as some arrangements penned for the occasion. 26 MYO string musicians travelled to Austria in July, hosted by the families of their Austrian counterparts. Once more, intensive rehearsals and cultural excursions paved the way for two concerts, one in Graz’s Minorittensaal
