Leisure Office Grill and Chill (16th Aug)

To begin the leisure events for the term 21/22, MHSA’s Grill and Chill BBQ was held at Ghadira Bay.

The event was a huge success, with over 50 people in attendance! To cater to the dietary demands of the students, both meat and vegan options were provided. Also, everyone was urged to bring their own reusable plates and cutlery to decrease the amount of waste produced during the event. COVID-19 measures were also implemented accordingly.

Overall, it was a fantastic evening filled with delicious food, wonderful music, and even better company. It was a good opportunity to get to know other people from other student organisations as well!

Health Office Why wait, just Donate (17th Sept)

It is widely known that blood donations are of critical importance in the medical field. This is especially true in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Blood is required by the majority of individuals who are afflicted with physical diseases and injuries.

On September 17th, MHSA hosted its first blood donation of the term. This helped promote blood donation among University of Malta students, particularly future health-care professionals and phlebotomists. The event was a huge success, with a good amount of people showing up to donate blood for a common purpose.

We thank all of those who donated blood and encourage others to do so as well!

Health Office World Heart Day (26th Sept)

World Heart Day was all about raising awareness on the spread of cardiovascular diseases and the importance of Physical activity to diminish the risk of having any heart complications. On Sunday the 26th of September, we went to the Chinese gardens to perform a unique form of exercise in collaboration with the Malta School of Wushu, who gave us an introduction to Qi and Qi gong. This is a system of coordinated movements, breathing and meditation. We certainly found it entertaining! After all, it's not bad for self-defense!

Education Office Protect Your Skin (31st July) - The Point, Sliema

This physical event was aimed for the members of the general public. The primary goal was to help educate them on and promote the importance of skin protection from the sun during the summer season.

Different sunscreen samples and brochures were provided to the public, together with suitable information and a fun game for the young children who approached our stand. It was a great opportunity to get to know different people and to make them more aware regarding this pertinent issue!

Education Office Faculty Talks (19 Aug)

The purpose of this event was to educate potential students about the various courses provided by the Faculty of Health Sciences. The talk was physically held, and one speaker from each of the different courses were asked to discuss what their respective course includes, allowing attendees to have a greater understanding of the work involved within every course.

Following the talk, a Q&A session was held for 6th Form students to ask questions about their preferred course option. Afterwards, the students had the opportunity to learn how to carry out health checks.

Education Office Summer School (23rd Aug - Lija , 25th Aug - Siggiewi, 27th Aug - Mosta)

During the last week of August, MHSA organised educational sessions with different Skola Sajf centres. Due to the COVID19 regulations, these sessions had to be carried out online through a Teams meeting, however, the students seemed to enjoy them nonetheless.

These sessions were held with students aged 6-7 years at the Lija, Siggiewi and Mosta centres. Three activities were held during each session which were aimed at instilling curiosity and interest in the human body and anatomy. During the first activity, students were taught to find and count their pulse, and to compare their resting heart rates with their heart rates after performing jumping jacks.

The second activity allowed students to gain a visual understanding of how lungs inflate and deflate during respiration. To do this, straws were attached to paper bags which were then inflated by blowing into the straws.

A skeleton jigsaw puzzle was the final activity. Students here learned about the importance of our skeletons and how many bones we have in our body.

International Office Before You Go (21st Aug)

"Before You Go!” was an Erasmus Information Talk which was held for students about to leave on their Erasmus Plus exchanges. The talk aimed to have exFHS students talk about their own Erasmus experiences, and to pass on valuable advice to the new set of students eagerly waiting to set off on their adventure.

The speakers gave various forms of advice, from what to pack to what to expect during the stay.

Whilst thanking the speakers for their contribution, MHSA wishes the very best to the students about to embark on their experience.

External Affairs Office Meet the Exec (21 Sept)

This year's MHSA’s “Meet The Exec” was held at Ta’ Detta Restaurant, Valletta.

While we enjoyed a glass of beer and some delicious cuisine, the MHSA executive board got to know different people from various organisations. Also, it was a great opportunity to meet and discuss our ideas for the upcoming term!

Considering that all of the executive board was present for the event, it was a fantastic opportunity to get to know each other better.

We closed the event by taking several exec photos, and some funny photos too!

External Affairs Office Science in The City (24th Sep and 25th Sept)

This year's Science in the City took the form of a hybrid festival: The Digital Festival and Physical Festival. The Digital festival took the form of an Online Escape room via Google Form. Participants had to go through a series of quizzes in order to be able to proceed to the next door and eventually ‘Escape the Hospital’.

The Physical Festival took place on 2 days, being the 24th and 25th of September. ‘Save The Patient’ was an interactive stage performance which took place at St George Preca Primary School, Valletta. In the performance, a footballer was injured during a football match, and the participants had to help the narrator save the patient by answering the questions related to each medical health care profession within FHS. They did extremely well! We are so glad to have such young faces interested in our professions!

Social Policy Office Extinction Rebellion Protest (Sat 18th Sept)

A protest was held on Saturday 18th September in front of Castille. Many student organisations attended to protest the global climate crisis and put pressure on the people in power to act sooner rather than later to ensure a better future for ourselves and those who come after us.
