Na reunião do início de Ago/2020, o Comitê de Política Monetária (Copom) do Banco Central (BC) reduziu a taxa básica de juros de 2,25% para 2,00% ao ano (queda de 0,25 ponto percentual), configurando o menor índice da série histórica (iniciada em 1996). Este foi o nono corte consecutivo, e o quinto anunciado em 2020. A decisão ainda expressa preocupação quanto aos efeitos negativos do novo coronavírus na economia. A próxima reunião deverá acontecer em meados de Set/2020.
Taxa de Câmbio A taxa média cambial do Dólar Americano (USD) comercial em Jul/2020 foi de BRL 5,28/USD enquanto que em Jun/2020 foi de BRL 5,20/USD, evidenciando desvalorização de 1,6% da moeda brasileira frente à moeda americana no período. A média da taxa cambial da primeira quinzena de Ago/2020 foi de BRL 5,37/USD, evidenciando tendência de desvalorização do Real frente à média mensal de Jul/2020 (BRL 5,28/USD). A desvalorização acumulada no ano da moeda brasileira frente ao USD até 14/Ago foi de 33,9%.

Interest rates: At the meeting in early Aug/2020, the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) of the Central Bank lowered the basic interest rate from 2.25% to 2.00% per year (down 0.25 percentage points), the lowest index in the historical series (started in 1996). This was the ninth consecutive cut, and the fifth announced in 2020. The decision still expresses concern about the negative effects of the new coronavirus on the economy. The next meeting is expected to take place in mid-September/2020.
Exchange rates: : The average exchange rate of the commercial US Dollar (USD) in Jul / 2020 was BRL 5.28 / USD while in Jun / 2020 it was BRL 5.20 / USD, showing a 1.6% devaluation of the Brazilian currency against the American currency in that period. The average exchange rate for the first half of Aug / 2020 was BRL 5.37 / USD, showing a trend of devaluation of the Real against the monthly average of Jul / 2020 (BRL 5.28 / USD). The year-to-date devaluation of the Brazilian currency against the USD until August 14th was 33.9%.
