Dan Holmqvist

E

veryone knows Dan Holmqvist. The varsity soccer player, who was voted Best All-Around and Beauty and Brains. A crucial member to The Blue and Gold, Forensics Team, and National Honor Society. Most importantly, he is the valedictorian for the Malden High School’s class of 2012. Holmqvist was born in Sweden, but at the young age of two, his parents and older sister, An, made the move to Wellesley, MA. The family spent some time in Wellesley, but he remembers that he went from preschool through to grade 12 in the Malden Public School System. Throughout his four years at

MHS, Holmqvist has been involved in many activities, one being The Blue and Gold. Holmqvist was a part of The Blue and Gold for four years. Starting off as a reporter, Holmqvist strived to gain a higher rank his sophomore year. During his second year on the newspaper staff, Holmqvist landed a position as Copy Editor, and then Head of World News. Holmqvist eventually became Co-Editor-inChief his senior year. After spending four years on the newspaper staff, Journalism became his favorite class. Coincidentally, the advisor, Ryan Gallagher, became his favorite teacher. In addition to securing a spot on the newspaper staff all four years, Holmqvist was co-captain of the soccer team and Vice-President of the Forensics Team during that same time. In the spring of 2010, Holmqvist was one of seven sophomores to get inducted into the MHS National Honor Society. As a member of NHS, one is expected to conduct a service project which inspires and serves the community. This year Holmqvist along with counterpart fellow senior and best friend Omar Khoshafa went to the Newland St. YMCA on a weekly basis to serve as mentors to the kids who go to the YMCA regularly. Eddie Lee

D

rum Major, swim team captain, National Honor Society Treasurer, and salutatorian, Eddie Lee, has accomplished many things during his four years at Malden High

School. In addition to his extensive extra curricular presence at MHS, through dedication, hard work, and perseverance, he is finishing off this high school career with an impressive 4.06 GPA. For those still making their journey through high school, he has offered some advice: “Make your high school years fulfilling and rewarding so that when years pass and you look back at [those] years, you can be proud of what you did and brought to the Malden High School community.” For underclassmen, he encourages joining sports, clubs, and organizations that you love, like he has. Lee has found his niche within many groups at MHS, two in particular would be the swim team and the concert/marching band. Lee found his passion for swimming at age seven.
