Let them play—hockey! Broad Channel officially has a new hockey rink. On Friday, June 28, Councilman Eric Ulrich and the NYC Parks Department held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the new hockey rink at Broad Channel Park. Six years in the making, the project funded by Ulrich was inspired by local children who wanted to improve their community park. With strength in numbers, supporters voted for the rink as part of the participatory budgeting initiative in 2014. The hockey rink would ultimately garner enough votes to get funded. The rink at Broad Channel Park is officially open to the public just in time for the summer.
