How Do I Select a Funeral Home? As you plan for the burial of a deceased loved one, you’ll need to One of the first decisions a family makes upon a loved one’s passing is which funeral home to use. Depending on where you live or where the funeral will take place – you may have many options. Not all funeral homes offer the same services or prices, so it’s a good idea to compare and find what works best for your needs. When choosing a funeral home, consider where the funeral will be and pick something local. Consider any religious affiliations and whether the funeral home works with specific cemeteries or has their own. If your loved one is being cremated, does the funeral home offer a crematory, or do they outsource this service? Ask for a general price list so that you can compare your options. Funeral homes are required to provide pricing. If the cost of caskets or urns is not included on the general price list, ask to see these prices as well. Some funeral homes offer package deals but should still tell you the à la carte prices of each service. Funerals can range greatly in cost depending on what you want included, so have a budget in mind. Check into available services. Are they able to accommodate all of your wishes? Do they offer certain religious elements that are important to you? Talk through what you are looking for and see how things measure up. Don’t feel pressured into making decisions. Consider the customer service you’re provided when comparing funeral homes. Which one made you feel the most comfortable? Who seemed most responsive to your wishes and concerns? What services fit best with your religious preferences and budget? When selecting a funeral home, do your research, ask questions, and pick the one that fits best with your family’s needs.
