By design Renowned fashion designer Wayne Cooper reveals the inspiration behind his latest Wayne Cooper collection in Myer and his other clothing and accessory ranges. Describe your latest Wayne Cooper spring/summer Remember Now collection in Myer. The Remember Now collection is a modern take on ‘70s silhouettes with a minimalist modern focus. The shapes are pared back in a beautiful soft colour palette of nude, terracotta, ink, ivory and coral. Fabrics are light and ethereal, lots of silk chiffons, faille and silk cotton. What was the inspiration behind this latest collection? I wanted to look back at the ‘70s with a very modern streamlined edge, hence Remember Now. Do you have a favourite piece from this collection? I love the putty silk charmeuse cape dress, which was shot in the Myer summer catalogue. The fabric drapes and moves beautifully, a very modern piece. What are your top five picks from this collection? I love the silk charmeuse cape dress, the silk faille halter-neck column dress, the “Sandy Shaw” kaftan dress, the ‘70s splice contrast hem maxi dress and the minimalist silk colour block tunic dress. What prompted the decision to re-launch BRAVE, your first label? I decided to re-launch BRAVE as I have fond memories of my first label, which opened the first Australian Fashion Week. But I decided to change the essence of the label and turn it into a luxury basics brand. It is full of easy pieces in soft modal jerseys - very modern, easy to wear and not size sensitive. What are the design differences between the two labels? Wayne Cooper is sophisticated forward fashion, more directed at going out, parties, races and formals. BRAVE is more modern day dressing. Tell us about your childrenswear and menswear ranges? The childrenswear is called Wayne JNR after the names of my children Jude and Ruby. It is a rock-inspired collection full of shapes my kids love to wear, and the menswear is full of clothes I love to wear, not too stitched up, a bit of rock n roll, a bit of Steve McQueen, cool and not too try hard.

Tell us about your accessory and handbag ranges. The accessories are young, fun and very up to the minute. They complement my clothes, as do the handbags, with a colour palette to suit each collection with great attention to detail.

Who do you design for? I design for me, people that surround me, my family, my friends and the “Wayne” girl who wants to look sexy, modern and have an individual point of view. What is the secret to your longevity in the fashion industry? I still have a passion for what I do and no day is the same as the last. Creativity means constant change and trying to make the next collection the best my customers have seen and would love to wear. What’s next for you? The finishing Touch Owner of Brisbane-based Adorne accessory boutiques, Toni Holt, gives an insight into the designs and stories behind the jewellery and accessory collections. Seeing a gap in the market for quality, trend-driven accessories at a great price, Toni Holt established Adorne in 2002 to import and wholesale fashion accessories. The retail concept began in 2009 and Adorne now has four boutiques and 1800 stockists throughout Australia and New Zealand. Adorne boutiques are stocked full of the latest jewellery, accessories, handbags and must-have pieces in an array of colours and styles and grouped attractively into themes for ease of shopping. New ranges arrive in-store weekly to create an enticing fresh look for accessory addicts. “We research the seasonal trends, identifying shapes, colours and materials, then develop stories to fill the trends as we see it,” Toni says. And this season’s trends? Toni says to look out for colourful crystals in event and evening jewellery. The bold bright block colours seen on the runway will also be represented in

clutches and handbags. Toni also tips the Navaho trend of feathers, turquoise and silver jewellery, plus natural stones such as agate cuffs, rings and necklaces to be very popular this summer. The new bag shapes are the tote and cross-body bags – perfect for summer music festivals. Embellishment and natural textures also add interest to bags. Unsurprisingly Toni is definitely an accessory person, citing a vintage chandelier crystal necklace as her favourite piece, and never leaves the house without wearing a couple of jewellery items. However with such a huge collection at her fingertips, she is spoilt for choice with new favourites every delivery. Toni believes accessories and costume jewellery remain popular ways to stay up-to-date with trends because “it is such a cost effective way to make a statement about your style! PIzza muFFInS Ingredients: 3 cups (450g) self-raising flour, sifted 1 teaspoon baking powder 11/2 cups (180g) grated cheddar cheese 150g ham, chopped 2/3 cup (150g) chopped pineapple, drained 2/3 cup (160ml) vegetable oil 2 tablespoons tomato paste 2 eggs 1 cup (250ml) milk

Method: Preheat oven to 180°C. Place the flour, baking powder, 1 cup (120g) cheese, ham and pineapple in a bowl and mix to combine. Place the oil, tomato paste, egg and milk in a bowl and whisk to combine. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and mix until just combined. Spoon into 12 x ½ cup-capacity (125ml) muffin tins and sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake for 30 minutes or until cooked when tested with a skewer. Makes 12.
