Former Major General Michael Harrison (retired) served in the United States Army for 34 years, during which time he did a stint in Afghanistan at the height of the U.S. war on terror. He salutes the men and women who worked tirelessly to ensure the region regained peace and that its citizens were able to prosper.

During his 34-year career in the United States Army, Former Major General Michael Harrison was deployed on various missions and assignments at home and overseas. One of these assignments was helping the people of Japan in the recovery efforts after a devastating earthquake and tsunami struck the country on March 11, 2011. He was encouraged by the resilience of the Japanese people, which helped make their efforts more successful.
