Tribute to AEBA Awardee Syed Shahidul Haque Mama All European Bangladesh Association (AEBA) dedicates its 5 Years of Achievements to “AEBA Awardee 2012” Syed Shahidul Haque Mama, a valiant freedom fighter, died at a Qatar hospital on 30th June 2017. He was also the chief of “Mama Group Guerrilla Bahini” during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. Under his leadership, Mama Bahini played an important role in the Liberation War. Syed Shahidul Haque Mama left Bangladesh for Sweden in 1986 and settled there with his family. He has received the prestigious “AEBA Award 2012” during the AEBA 1st Grand Convention which was held in Athens, Greece on 1st and 2nd December 2012.

AEBA & its 5 Years of Achievements All European Bangladesh Association (AEBA) is a completely different type of Europe based organization formed by expatriate Bangladeshi community. This is the first interstate, non-political and non-profitable organization for one million Bangladeshis living in different countries in the European Union (EU). Though AEBA is a collective organization of expatriate Bangladeshis, the journey of it formally started from our lovely motherland Bangladesh through a press conference at the National Press Club, Dhaka on 12th October, 2012. After its inception, through undergoing the organizational processes our first Grand Convention was held in Athens on 1st and 2nd December 2012 and AEBA was formally established on 2nd December 2012. H.E. Mr. Notis Mitarachi, the Vice Minister for Economic Development and Competitiveness, Greece, was the chief guest and H.E. Mr. Muhammad Azizul Haque, the Ambassador of Bangladesh in Greece, was the special guest at the 1st Grand Convention of AEBA. Since its inception, All European Bangladesh Association (AEBA) rendered continued and voluntary services to the Bangladeshis trapped in dangers in different countries of Europe. AEBA played the most dominant role in 2013 in Greece when the owner of a strawberry farm in the countryside ‘Nea Manolada’ caused indiscriminate firing at the innocent Bangladeshi workers. We also roared our voice putting our shoulders to the shoulders of international human rights organizations. We took all the necessary steps immediately from Paris as the headquarters of AEBA are located there. We submitted memorandum to the Greek Embassy in Paris with a demand of legalizing the injured Bangladeshi workers through sanctioning ‘stay permit’ alongside to providing them with proper compensation and punishment of the accused farm owner. At the same time from Paris, AEBA Secretary General raised the issue in a meeting with the designated officials of European Commission at Brussels and they assured to consider the issue as ‘priority’ concern. Since the President of AEBA is the celebrated personality of Bangladesh community in Greece, he also did his best efforts to help the injured-maltreated Bangladeshis in Greece. The government of Greece legalized the injured Bangladeshis on sixth month. All European Bangladesh Association (AEBA) shares its joy and happiness with them in this connection. The AEBA leaders candidly utilized their respective experience and competences with optimum level of commitment to uphold the Bangladeshi heritage and culture abroad. They have efficiently done the job of ‘image building’ of Bangladesh abroad maintaining deep relationship with the senior most designated officials of the administration of different countries. The AEBA leaders have also been working relentlessly to guide the new generation properly in the search of their roots. Many Bangladeshis have got employment with their unconditional assistance, at the same time many irregular Bangladeshi migrants received the highest level of assistance from us. AEBA leaders are also working to connect the enthusiastic Bangladeshis with professional institutes of the different countries of Europe for developing them as skilled, professional and productive human resource. We have also provided assistance with our best effort in the respective countries in different charity activities of the community as including sending the dead bodies of demised Bangladeshis succumbing normal death. All European Bangladesh Association (AEBA), an organization of bringing transformation in Europe, has been working in protecting interests of the expatriates on the basis of effective communication between the government of Bangladesh and the administration of different countries in Europe. At the same time, the AEBA leaders are actively participating in the movements against racism in different countries of Europe. In addition to the community development, All European Bangladesh Association (AEBA) is a successful stakeholder of the development of Bangladesh.

In the post ‘Rana Plaza tragedy’ period, the Ready Made Garments industry of Bangladesh was prone to be at the risk on the large market of Europe. At that time, strong lobbying was exerted from the AEBA Head Office in Paris with the senior management of European Commission and European Parliament in Brussels as including in France and Germany to protect the sake of this main export sector of Bangladesh. When it was at the preparatory stage to put embargo on the duty-free access of Bangladeshi goods in European market, at that time AEBA Secretary General had a formal meeting with the concerned officer of the European Union and urged an appeal in support of our stand. Due to the earnestness of AEBA leaders, the lawful demands of the expatriates have already been documented in the Prime Minister’s office in Dhaka, even in the Bangabhaban, the office of the Honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Though our activities were confined within Europe, the expatriate Bangladeshis residing all around the world are reaching our message through networking. During AEBA Secretary General’s visit in Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Vietnam, Cambodia, United States & Canada, the community leaders of those countries expressed their consensus with the advancement of AEBA and stressed importance on working together across the world in the wavy way of claiming and establishing lawful rights of the expatriates. The 2nd Grand Convention of AEBA was held on 30th and 31st of May 2015 in Lisbon, Portugal at the critical period of unprecedented migration crisis in Europe, after the military conflicts in Syria, Sudan, Mali & Eritrea. The International Organization for Migration was represented by Mrs. Marta Bronzin, IOM Lisbon Headquarters' Chief of Mission. A special working session was held on the subject of mutual cooperation between AEBA and IOM for the safe migration and humanity in these alarming circumstances in Europe. AEBA has officially announced its readiness to work hand in hand with Bangladeshi Diaspora abroad and the Government of Bangladesh, as well as with the hosting countries for migrants in Europe and beyond in order to ensure the respect of the human rights, dignity and a safer migration. Later on, special meetings with the high officials of the Ministries of Home and International Affairs of France, Spain and Portugal, with the respective national Administration on Migration, expressed their readiness to hold several working sessions, on the initiative of AEBA, for a better coordination of internal and external policies towards the issue of migration from Bangladesh and elsewhere. These serious contacts and active position of AEBA representatives contributed to forge a positive reputation of our Association within main international institutions and helped to build a new vision of public responsibility and personal commitment for the Bangladesh expatriates. All European Bangladesh Association (AEBA) has hosted the 1st Bangladesh Global Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 19th and the 20th of November in 2016. Diaspora professionals, scientists, engineers, physicians, academicians, businessmen & entrepreneurs, activists, attorneys, community activists, government officials, executive directors of FBBCI, BGMEA, and journalists from Asia, America, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, South America, New Zealand, Europe and the Middle East attended this one of a kind Bangladeshi Summit. The two-day summit presented papers and keynote speeches by a great deal of renown experts in the areas of: (i) branding Bangladesh, (ii) overseas expatriation, safe migration and employment, (iii) outstanding performances of Bangladeshi expatriates in the strategic sectors of agriculture, civil engineering, information technology, public administration, finance, education, science, health and social care, sports & youths in the service of the community in Bangladesh, (iv) promotion and development of the touristic potential of Bangladesh; contribution of the Bangladeshi expatriates community to the strategic facilities in transports, logistics, and services; preserving culture heritage, arts, language, traditions in Bangladesh and aboard. The top and most influential journalists Mr. Abed Khan, Mr. Saiful Alam, Mr. Shyamal Dutta, Mr. Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Mr. Naem Nizam, Mr. Sabir Mustafa, Mr. Peer Habibur Rahman, Mr. Mostofa Feroz & Mr. Mahmud Hafiz participated and gave speeches at the Summit. These journalists had pledged to inform and be vocal in their news media to influence government for resolving Diaspora issues such as work permit, visa, airport hassles, transport of dead body at free of cost, security, investment and asset protection

of Diaspora in Bangladesh. H.E. Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Bin Abdul Aziz, the minister of tourism and culture, Malaysia, was the chief guest and H.E. Md. Shahidul Islam, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Malaysia, was the special guest at the 1st Bangladesh Global Summit. The President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Mr. Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, the Former President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Mr. Atiqul Islam and the Professor of Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka Dr. Syed Ferhat Anwar have played their very vital role at the Kuala Lumpur Summit. The incident of arrests of Bangladeshi migrant workers in Malaysia in February 2017 was the occasion for AEBA to use its relations within the IOM and the ILO, as well as on the highest interstate level in Malaysia and Bangladesh. AEBA members were urged through the social networks to defend the Bangladesh migrant workers in Malaysia who had been hiding against the unfair persecution in the jungle around Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as they were waiting for their official documents to be delivered after the expiry of the deadline, established by the Malaysian Government, but could not get them due to the big delays and unfair procedures at a high price operated by the bilateral network of working agents. The respective ministries of home affairs and expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment were contacted by AEBA in order to postpone the date of the regularization of the undocumented Bangladeshi migrant workers in Malaysia. Due to a successful mediation of AEBA, the Malaysian Government has finally granted the additional time till the end of the year 2017 to finalize all the requests of regularization and obtained the freedom for the unfairly arrested Bangladeshi migrants. AEBA President Engr. Dr. Zainoul Abedin, Secretary General Mr. Kazi Enayet Ullah and Vice President Mr. Fakrul Acom Salim met Honorable President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Mr. Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on 2nd March 2017. Hon'ble President has highly appreciated all the activities of All European Bangladesh Association (AEBA). Honorable Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister of Bangladesh Mr. Anisul Huq said, “We will not formulate any act which will harm our expatriate Bangladeshis who are residing in different countries”. The assurance came on 3rd February 2017 in Dhaka, during a meeting between the Minister and the leaders of All European Bangladesh Association (AEBA). President of AEBA Engr. Dr. Zainoul Abedin, Secretary General Mr. Kazi Enayet Ullah and Vice President Mr. Fakrul Acom Salim were present at the Meeting. Previously, in 2016, AEBA leaders also met Honorable Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Mr. Nurul Islam BSc, Honorable Minister of Planning Mr. AHM Mustafa Kamal and Honorable Home Minister Mr. Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. All European Bangladesh Association (AEBA) has vehemently rejected the baseless statistics on 93,000 undocumented Bangladeshi expatriates living in the European countries. AEBA is a Bangladeshi association consisting of members from 30 European countries. On 6th September 2017, AEBA has organized a ‘Press Conference’ at its headquarters in Paris, where the leaders of AEBA have denounced the sources that had once cited 80,000 and later cited 93,000 undocumented Bangladeshis living in Europe. According to AEBA leaders, these unreliable sources could never prove their exaggerated numbers of 80,000 or 93,000 undocumented Bangladeshis living in Europe. AEBA leaders have urged the community not to pay attention to any artificial numbers which may have had caused fears within the community, rather focus on day-today activities without any worry. Non-violent protests & peaceful demonstration against the Rohingya Genocide & the brutality of Myanmar government, in front of United Nations (UN) regional headquarters in Geneva, was held on 15 th September 2017, organized by Europe’s largest & influential community organization All European Bangladesh Association (AEBA). Special meeting between AEBA delegations and Mr. Erivan Santiago França Filho, Human Rights Officer of Civil Society Unit, Field Operations and Technical Cooperation Division’s (FOTCD), Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights at Geneva, Switzerland was held on the same day. The delegation of AEBA also met H.E. Mr. M. Shameem Ahsan, the Honorable Ambassador & Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN Office and other International Organizations in Geneva. The delegation was led by Mr. Kazi Enayet Ullah, the Secretary General of AEBA. To sum up, All European Bangladesh Association (AEBA) is certainly moving ahead in the way of the implementation of the goals and objectives set forth at its founding period.
