The world’s coastal zone is on the front line when it comes to the likely impacts of global environmental change. Accelerated sea level rise combined with possible increases in the frequency and magnitude of extreme weather events is likely to lead to more damaging windstorm events, greater wave energy and higher rainfall intensity, producing accelerated erosion of beaches and coastal margins.
