Tragwerksplanung Structural Design
Das Entwerfen und Konstruieren von Tragwerken als integraler Teil des architektonischen Entwurfs ist der Schwerpunkt in der Lehre des Lehrstuhls für Tragwerksplanung. Dazu werden Grundlagen der Statik und Festigkeitslehre vermittelt, die verschiedenen Tragkonstruktionen behandelt und der Zusammenhang zwischen Architektur, Struktur und Materialisierung anhand von Beispielen thematisiert. Entwürfe, Diplomarbeiten und Masterarbeiten werden angeboten und betreut. Die Forschung am Lehrstuhl für Tragwerksplanung hat zwei Schwerpunkte: „Konstruktion und Form“ und „Historische Tragwerke“. Dem weitgefassten Themenbereich „Konstruktion und Form“ lassen sich all die Forschungsprojekte zuordnen, bei denen der Zusammenhang zwischen Tragwerksform und architektonischer Form von besonderer Bedeutung ist. Insbesondere Raum- und Flächentragwerke wie Membran- und Schalenkonstruktionen, bei denen der Zusammenhang zwischen Tragwerksform und gestaltbestimmender Form unmittelbar ist, stehen im Vordergrund. Bewegliche Tragwerke sind ein weiteres Arbeitsgebiet. Forschungsarbeiten des Schwerpunktes „Historische Tragwerke“ haben die Bautechnikgeschichte, das Tragverhalten, die Erhaltung und die Instandsetzung zum Thema. Das Verständnis der Konstruktion und die Analyse des Tragverhaltens sowie der substanzschonende und denkmalgerechte Umgang mit den alten Konstruktionen stehen dabei im Mittelpunkt. Konkrete Planungen und Instandsetzungsmaßnahmen werden wissenschaftlich begleitet. The design and engineering of structures as an integral part of the architectural design process is the focus of teaching at the Chair of Structural Design. To this end, the Chair teaches the fundamentals of statics and the mechanics of materials, examines different loadbearing structures and explores the relationship between architecture, structure and material. In addition to regular design projects, the Chair also supervises diploma and master theses. Research projects at the Chair of Structural Design typically relate to one of the two core areas: “Structure and Form” or “Historical Constructions”. The wide-ranging theme of “Structure and Form” encompasses research projects that explore interdependencies between structural behavior and architectural form and expression. Through its connections with the Department of Architecture and the Institute for Architectural Design and Building Technology, the Chair can run joint projects involving architecture and structural engineering students. A key focus is the design of surface structures such as shell or tensile structures, where there is a direct relationship between structural behavior and architectural form. Flexible structures are a further area of research.
