Little Children Are Dependent A child was recently born to one of our staff members. God clearly created a relationship on earth that we could understand as a reflection of our relationship with Him. Not everyone has loving parents, some have absent parents, some would be better off if they had absent parents, but there are examples that can at least give us a glimpse of what He intends between us and Him. “He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” Matthew 18:2-6 From birth, a babe will cry out for food, warmth, shelter and love without measure or concern as to how the provision will be given. He won’t consider budgets or whether the provider has employment. Neither does he concern himself about sounding too needy or try to provide for himself in his pride. He cries expecting his needs to be met and the more they are met, the more he feels loved, and the more he trusts in his provider.

Children are lowly in their dependence. We are to depend on God for everything. Rest has been a repeated message for the MAF staff throughout the year. Our International Prayer Day on 16 May 2018 is focussed on rest. There are so many ways that a person can receive rest, shelter, food, warmth or anything else we need or desire. But we can only truly rest in Him. We can only find true strength in Him. We can only find true healing in Him. We can only find exactly what we need and desire in Him - every blessing, every good and perfect gift comes from the Lord, and no sorrow is added to it. Unlike what is taught in the West, independence is not the height of maturity. We need to depend on the Lord like a child depends on his parents. We call our Lord, “FATHER”. How kind of Him to state our relationship from the very start. Don’t allow pride to creep in and deceive you. We need God more than we need anything else. “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32 Depend on Him and receive peace. “Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labour or spin...” Luke 12:27 *Front Cover: Dave Forney Photography 2015

FEATURED MAF PROGRAMME

Liberia Praise God for our team of 5 dedicated personnel and one Cessna 208 Grand Caravan in Liberia. As Liberia recovers from the effects of Ebola and the civil war, MAF’s operations is the country’s only humanitarian flight service. According to a national census, 85.5% of the population practises Christianity, but the Church is fragile and many believers live in fear and spiritual bondage. Plead the blood of Jesus over the country. Pray for freedom from the fear that so many people feel. Pray for the Lord’s peace to infiltrate the land. Speak this verse over Liberians: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 International

Many people, particularly late teens and young adults, feel lost, depressed, and hopeless because of the trauma they have experienced in their country. Pray for the youth to wear ‘the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.’ Pray that they experience joy in the Lord. Give thanks for these MAF partners that are working to uplift isolated Liberians spiritually and physically: Baptist Church in Liberia Baptist Mid-mission Medical Teams International New Tribes Mission SIM International Samaritans Purse Water Mission International Waves for Change The photo on the left is of youths participating in Waves for Change. You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder. Isaiah 9:3
