MAF is an international Christian organisation whose mission is to fly light aircraft, and to use other technologies to bring help, hope and healing to people in some of the world’s poorest communities. Every four minutes an MAF plane is taking off or landing somewhere in the world to assist missions, churches, aid and development agencies, and other local groups to transform lives and share the love of God.

In 2019 we have seen disaster relief, medical evacuations, development, and widespread evangelism as isolated people come to hear about the love of Jesus Christ.

Another year has nearly come to an end, and there is so much for which we are grateful. Thank you for being obedient to His call on your life to serve MAF in whichever way you do, whether that be financially, prayerfully, or by serving with your time and skills.

“MAF is so incredible!” beams Jackson Songa, Director of Operations of evangelism organisation Empower One. “I am very grateful that its aircraft came along at the right time for us. How else could we get to dangerous, hard-toreach places without MAF?” Empower One sends two teams a month from the USA to work alongside the growing number of Christians in the Rhino Camp refugee settlement. The teams are active in evangelism, church planting and leadership training – the latter through its pastor training centres. Furthermore, the teams provide programmes for women ranging from evangelism and poultry farming to soap making and tailoring. Pastor Banja Benjamin is from Yei in South Sudan – just one refugee among tens of thousands from that town. His testimony is honest and direct.

It is easy to sit before a problem or the detail of the issues it has brought. It is easy to focus on things that are not true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable or praiseworthy. The news seems to focus on these things. People seem to want to hear these things. But at the end of brooding, only hopelessness remains. When we consider our Father, when we sit before Him and think over His faithfulness, creatvity, power and love, we find the joy, healing and provision we need for whatever we are going through. It is a choice.

TOBIAS MEYER | SOUTH SUDAN Praise God that Tobias has been able to fly many missionaries and organisations that are enabling the isolated people of South Sudan to receive the gospel and physical help they need. Pray for Tobias to rest well among all the work.

The year of 2019 has been a historical milestone for MAF PNG. We are moving from a multi-type fleet to a single type fleet, flying Cessna 208 Caravans only. Gordon learnt to fly before he had learnt to drive, and he loved telling us kids how you learn to fly. You don’t look straight down the road because ‘there is no road’ up there. The flight instructors drill it into the pupil pilots to keep looking around, mostly left to right to make sure your wings are level, then down at the relief to keep track of your location - those were the days of handheld maps and compass settings; and of course, often at your various instruments to check speed, heading, and so on.

That training, however, was to prove very useful in the years to come. This short extract tells of a time before Gordon joined MAF. God used every scenario in his life to prepare him for his calling. A calling where he could use both his skills as a pilot and his passion to share the love of Jesus with as many people as possible. The legacy he left is proof of fulfilling that calling, and this book so wonderfully records those powerful moments of life.
