My passion is in interior architecture and design. I love the intimacy of designing spaces that people live in every single day. Much of my professional experience is coordinating the architecture and interiors to ensure that each trasition is seamless and every table has a spot light.

“The Sacred Space and Cultural Studies (SSCS) concentration is one of the few programs in the world where architecture graduate students, faculty and professionals can reflect, learn, research, and profess the deepest spiritual and cultural roots of place-making” -Julio Bermudez, Studio Coordinator
ACADEMIC WORK
I have recently moved to New York and am looking for a firm with a collaborative culture where I can grow as a designer and a leader. My favorite part of the day is dreaming up ideas with clients and racing back to the office to bring them to life.
My education has inspired my work to be thoughtful, expressive and devoted to personal enlightenment. My intention is to continue my career designing spaces that engage the public in a provocative conversation between themselves and their environment.

Project Description :
coffee bar + kitchen
The Gathering Space is a student lounge within Silverstein Hall, a new senior housing residence. The space includes a coffee bar with a kitchen, a convenience store, an art gallery, student lounge with a fireplace, and public restrooms.

LIGHTING
This building is on a remote site compared to the rest of the campus, so we wanted to make sure that it not only had amenities that the students requested, but an atmosphere where they can relax, socialize, and interact with their peers. The design is inspired by speakeasies with low lighting, vibrant art, and plenty of places to relax and have intimate conversations.
The fixtures are hosted within walnut boxes, giving off a warm aura over the fireplace and gaming area. This feature helps to define the space, and set apart the lounge, gaming and focus zones.
COFFEE BAR
At night, the coffee bar will serve beer and cocktails. The stools surrounding the wood-top bar are meant to encourage students to sit and chat with one another, rather than exchanging a brief transaction.
SPEAKEASY
Warm wood, low lighting, vibrant art, and intimate seating arrangements give students a place to be alone - together.

The gallery is open for people to roam around the gift shop and rotating exhibits on their way towards the viewing gallery. A mirrored screen separates the spaces to allude to a dramatic reveal.

The visitor centre is a blend of Najd influence and modern technology. It has skylights cut through the warm wood ceiling that bounces light off of the battered-stone walls, filling the space with light similar to the palace.

A CULTURAL VISION 05. SPATIAL ORGANIZATION
OASIS CORE AREA CIRCULATION
PROPOSED FUNCTIONS & SPACES
Location : Medina Region, Saudi Arabia Size : 100,000,000 sf Duration : 3 months Role : Design Staff The location of the main visitor experiences are stretched out along the one kilometer walk of the Oasis Promenade. This allows for clear way-finding, close connectivity and a concentration of public visitation that maximizes the restoration of the Summer Farms primary agricultural use. Moving east to west along this spine are the East Gate Precinct with its outward facing Oasis Market and Co-op (with restaurant and event space); at is centre, near the intersection of the wadi and the wadi walk is the Agri-Tourism Centre and Palm Park; the Botanical Gardens and Heritage Farms at the base of the Oasis Terraces and Interpretive Centre; and finally, a restored garden at the Al Jannah Spring. These zones form a series of four public space nodes (see location diagram below) that punctuate the Al Ula Old Town and Oasis experience. The following pages detail potential visitor journeys and itineraries throughout the Oasis and Old Town based on the length of visitation. Zones A, B, C and D are highlighted in detail at the end of the chapter.

I. MOVEMENT CORRIDORS
PRIMARY (service vehicles, buggies, pedestrians)
There are three movement corridors within the Oasis: The north to south Wadi corridor, the west to east routes connecting the Oasis entrance to the Old Town, and the in-between, connecting trails.
SECONDARY (buggies, pedestrians)
Movement within the Oasis Farms will be done on foot, camels, bicycles and electric, solar powered, vehicles. The latter will be allowed only for the west – to –east movements.

AGRICULTURE SUPPORT
Ayers Saint Gross partnered with a local firm and an international archaeological team to develop a report that highlights schemes to re-establish the historic relationships between the archaeological region, oasis, and modern settlements surrounding D the site.A We worked together to strategize a C B sustainable way to rehabilitate the site and oasis in a way that educates the community on their forgotten heritage. 1. The University of Maryland is building a new dining hall for undergraduate students, filled with cuisine from all around the world. I was brought onto the project to work on test fits and seating arrangements, as well as select interior finishes and furniture.

SECONDARY PATH
Additional circulation infrastructure4 should be provided to allow for effective servicing not only of visitor amenities, but the oasis agricultural business. By mapping the existing remains of farm walls, buildings and pathways, we can create a layered system of access that not maximizes preservation of earthen architectural heritage, but extends it patterning over the larger landscape. Within this system, vehicles (agricultural, service and visitor transport) can only access primary and secondary routes - allowing a dense tertiary network of pedestrian only walks to thread unimpeded through the site.

The surrounding land’s productivity will be rehabilitated, soil erosion 11 techniques will be implemented, dense flower and tree planting will take place, and the occasional water 2 flow will be monitored for its quality. Movement along this axis will be done via non-motorized means. During 3 5 the evening low-lighting levels are recommended, for instance via sensors that follow the visitors movement.

The Maryland education system has a strict program that only allows them to source equipment and furniture made from local correctional facilities. Although the design effort was for a preliminary concept presentation, I selected all fabrics and furniture with these limitations in mind. This way, when we presented our work, the client would know exactly what to expect, not just a dream that would need to be value-engineered later.

SHE’LL BE COMIN’ROUND THE MOUNTAIN Architectural Thesis January 2018 - May 2019 Advisors: Ann Cederna, Julio Bermudez, Eric Jenkins She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain depicts a woman, hiking alone on a mountain, while confronting architecture. While hiking, you are attuned to your vulnerability and you, instinctively, have a heightened sense of self-awareness. It is in these moments, that an interruption can make a lasting impact. While enchanted by your environment, you are lured into architectural destinations where you continue your journey through a series of obstacles. These obstacles are revealed to the hiker through a juxtaposing cadence between moments of hazard and moments of reprieve.

ROCK CREEK SCHOLARS Study + Meditation + Dwelling for 12 Muslim Scholars Spring 2018 Professor - Ann Cederna Islamic Center of Washington, D.C. 2551 Massachusetts Ave Washington, D.C. The design proposal is for 12 scholars that are to come, live, study and pray on the mosque’s campus. During our site visit, we added a master planning component to our program after learning that the mosque needs to be able to accommodate 2,000+ people on Fridays for prayer. The architecture of the scholar retreat is meant to respond to the mosque, Rock Creek Park, and the influx of mosque goers.

I designed a series of spaces intended to mentally and physically prepare you for either study, meditation, prayer, and sleep. To do that, I created a series of collages that expressed the design objective, materials, and architecture that each space would need. From these collages, I then produced orthographic representations.

A FIELD WITHIN A FOREST 6,500 sf Residential Home Fall 2017 Professor - Julio Bermudez + Rick Joy 6665 Alexander Road Bethesda, Maryland The Byrnes are a Fortune 500 family living in the Washington,D.C. area looking for a home that will help bring their family back together. Lauren, the matriarch and breadwinner, is having problems leaving work at work and connecting with her family. Her husband David, a stay-at-home dad and art collector, has decided to build a new home that does not compromise their security for personal freedom or freedom of expression. The house is suspended within a field of salvaged telephone poles. Inspired by the surround context of the forest, I have designed an environmental sculpture that immerses the family within a work of art that does not wall them off from the rest of the world. The poles function as art, structure for the house, and security so that the Byrnes are constantly connected to the art that surrounds them, supports the house, and protects their family.

Lauren’s Transition Home
In the Treetops
Full Immersion - Security through Density
I first drew a diagram of Lauren “braiding” through the forest, leaving her responsibilities in the city and finding her way home through the repetition of the trees. This transition exists on the bridge to the home, lit up at night for way finding. The bridge also has moments where you can step off the path to see David’s private sculpture collection that exists within the field of poles.
The site is on a cliff, so you have the unique perspective of being up in the treetops. The view below opens up the the Potomac River and the surrounding forest. Elevating the family also gives them additional security, a major concern for the family.
Not only is the family raised above the falling ground below, they are also surrounded by salvagesd telephone poles, giving them their own space to learn and grow together. Instead of surrounding them by a walled off community, they are able to achieve maximum security without living in a fortress. The filed poles mute the feeling of isolation by mimicking the rhythm of the forest.
