PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

BE INDEPENDENT

Thanks to BUA’s location and accessibility, many students get to and from school using public transportation. They commute by T, commuter rail, ferry, car, bike, and foot from locations as far away as Bridgewater, Lawrence, and Worcester, and as close as the Back Bay, Brookline, and Cambridge.

OUR STUDENTS SAY THAT COMMUTING IS A CORE PART OF THEIR BUA EXPERIENCE. IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT GETTING FROM POINT A TO POINT B. IT’S ABOUT BUILDING AUTONOMY AND SELF-RELIANCE AND GAINING THE CONFIDENCE TO NAVIGATE THE URBAN LANDSCAPE.

BUA is unique because it’s in the city and a lot of students commute by public transportation. I travel about an hour and a half each way, and honestly, I enjoy it. It’s given me the life skill of navigating public transportation and the chance to be independent—one of the reasons I wanted to come to BUA.

Commuting has made me much better at time management, too. On the train, I can plan things out and get my work done. I also know I need to take care of myself, so I’m careful to arrange my time for a balanced life. Commuting lets me take a break from everything if I need it. I can be alone with my thoughts, free-read, listen to music, or just pause after a busy day.

Another good thing about commuting is that it can introduce you to people at BUA who take the same route you do. I’ve definitely made friends that way!”
