THE EXTINCTION REBELLION CENTRE
The programme consists of a public garden, including workshops and living quarters that aims to raise awareness of climate change. It is designed inside the existing marble arch mound, providing it with a purpose as the project failed to function as a view point. This is achieved through retaining the mound scaffolding to create a permanent protest through architecture. The proposal inside, representing the climate movement, strongly contrasts the non-eco friendly mound.
The protest integrates the existing tactics that The Extinction Rebellion uses such as blocking roads. The aim of this protest is nonviolentandprogressive. Therefore, retractable road bollards are used that rise depending on the carbon emission rates of Westminster. The Berlin Free Zone by Lebbeus Woods, envisioned a future where Berlin protests underground in reaction to it’s government. The Extinction Rebellion entrance is underground, under the road, reacting to the non-environmental government.

THE SOLDERING WORKSHOP
The kiosk provides a take away to the public. The workshop represents the history of the executions that had taken place on Broad Street in the 1500s. The project provides a space where the public, specifically tourists can solder their confessions as symbols into the walls and the seating of the space. The kisok has both temporary and permanent properties; overtime, the ash pannels of the design are removed and made into arches to direct the public to the martyr monument that represents the executions.

THE FLOATING BALLET
One of the most significant innovations in eighteenth-century leisure was the pleasure garden: a dedicated outdoor space for entertainment. The brief of this project was to unearth the layers of the lost city as well as the living one, and re-establish a space for public celebration.
The design process was informed by the idea of reuse, where Chatelain house, scheduled for demolition would be redesigned through it’s components to revive the idea of the pleasure garden. The site of an abondoned gasometer and a water tank in the 1900s was designed into a ballet institution. The programme involves a theatre, rehersal studios and backstages. To celebrate the site’s history of water, a series of pools are designed for the dancers to exercise and prepare for the ballet.

TURANDOT ACT 2
A TEMPORARY THEATRE
This project continues to revive the atmosphere of the pleasure gardens from the eightenth-century, through creating an open air performance.
The design process also reuses the components from the demolished Chatelain house, to reinforce reuse. The temporary theatre is a set design for act two of Turandot. The main theme is suspence as Turandot gives her three riddles that will determine whether the prince will live or die at sun rise. Therefore, the parts of the palace are presented as an unbalaced structure, along with the stage rotating towards the audience, building suspence.

The Wider Context of Stevenage
A map of Stevenage
Whilst working at Rock Townsend Architects in Waterloo, London. I have had the opportunity to develop the regeneration of The Oval in Stevenage. In 1946, Stevenage was chosen as the site of the first ‘new town’, one of eight in the Greater London area. The new towns eased the housing pressure as bombsites and slums were cleared after the war. However, Stevenage is in need of regeneration due to the lack of facilities and the unsafe underpasses. The mixed use programme involves housing, a community centre, retail, urban planning and landscaping, providing an insight into a variety of different spaces, both public and private.
