I love being a part of mission team three because I want to see more women in leadership positions and I believe that if we can provide the knowledge to people about how access to equal opportunities and women’s empowerment is a necessity to gender equity than we can encourage others to promote and achieve a society in which women have the power to shape society as much as men do.

Learning

Mission Team 3 joined Mission Team 29, Education, on the Dean’s Patio in order to learn and create an advocacy letter. MT29 gave our mission team tools and tips on how to create an effective advocacy letter. Their drive and determination furthered our learning and helped us achieve our goals and send our letters to stakeholders in our community. Mission Team 29 left us with the words of, “Be passionate! Writing may seem lame, but it is essential to changing policies, applying for grants, etc. Go change the world!”

Networking

Tempe Amnesty International’s “Write at the World’s Longest Table” event allows volunteers to write letters advocating for investigations into missing persons, the release of prisoners conscious, etc, and since the 1990s they have selected 10-12 cases every December to focus on. This year, all of the cases are focused on youth issues. At the event, Mission Team 3 learned about the cases, wrote letters and signed pre-written letters. Not only did the mission team learn about the importance of youth issues, but they also listened to poetry readings and enjoyed the coffee shop!

Service

Mission Team 3 had the opportunity to table on the ASU Tempe campus to help Mission Team 2. This gave all members of section one the ability to communicate, encourage, and educate the ASU community on the In-N-Out Human Trafficking Campaign. Following the event, NGSC members headed to In-N-Out to donate over $100 and celebrate all they had accomplished!

Advocacy On January 19, Mission Team 3 attended the Women’s March at the Phoenix capitol. This experience gave rise to a newfound passion and determination for Mission Team 3 to advocate for change among our community. The Women’s March was an experience where members had the ability to communicate with various booths regarding our squads. Squads gave us an opportunity to separate into smaller subsections based on individual interests. They consisted of reproductive rights, education, advocacy, etc. Overall, Mission Team 3 was able to be part of a movement much larger than themselves and build unity and power within the Arizona community.

As you can see from the content of this magazine, Mission Team 3 is passionate about gender equality and have been willing to take action towards a more equal society through community and campus involvement, advocacy, and education. Each member from our mission team brings a unique perspective, allowing us to collaborate to create diverse and accessible solutions through our learning and work. As a mission team, we will continue to educate ourselves and others about gender equity through action, advocacy, and awareness. In the future, we hope to participate in more events at ASU and bring what we have learned to the Arizona community through service and leadership. We are excited about the strides our community is making towards gender equity in various places and forms, and we can’t wait to do more! Thank you for taking the time to read and learn about our team and all that we do!
