DIY: Funky Button Bouquets Modern brides are looking for something different, original and most of all show stopping. Here, Always & Forever shows you how to make beautiful everlasting button bouquets! Each one can be designed to each brides specific requirements.
E
each bouquet is individual and unique isn’t that how all brides want to feel on their special day?
To create these treasures, carefully source a combination of new and vintage buttons, jewellery and brooches and follow these simple crafting instructions...
STEP 1: Stack three to four buttons on top of one another in order of size with the largest button on the bottom. You can make the stacks all the same or have alternative colour combinations for variety in your bouquet.
STEP 2: Cut wire for the first flower. The wire should be double the length of the bouquet you intend to make.
STEP 3: Thread the buttons onto the wire and push them up until there are about 1.5 inches of wire sticking out the top. Bend this wire down and through the other holes on the buttons. Twist the tail end of the wire around the wire stem of your flower to secure it. Try using fabric cut flower shapes to add texture to your bouquet!

STEP 4: Repeat the previous steps to make as many button flowers as you want for your bridal bouquet. When the button flowers have all been assembled, bunch them together to form your bouquet.
STEP 5: Secure the bouquet using a rubber band just beneath the flowers. Attach a second rubber band around the base of the bouquet.
STEP 6: Cut a length of ribbon three times the length of your bouquet stems. Place one end of the ribbon at the top of the bouquet and begin wrapping the ribbon in a spiral motion, tucking in the end as you go. When you reach the bottom, wind your way back up to the top.
STEP 7: Secure the loose end of the ribbon with a bow or pin to complete your bridal button bouquet.

Rebecca &Dan 03.08.13 HOW WE MET Dan and I met ten years ago when I was 15, he was baby sitting my friend’s sister who had cerebral palsy. Dan was cleaning, so I started to help him, we started singing along to Shania Twain and dancing around, I began to realise that I really liked this happy go lucky guy! I wasn’t very interested in him at first but once we got talking I realised that we had so many things in common. We began our relationship and haven’t looked back since. THE PROPOSAL Dan proposed to me on Christmas day 2011. He got down on one knee in front of the Christmas tree and my parents! It meant so much to me that my family were there to witness such a special moment. I was unsure whether I was meant to say yes before or after I saw the ring, so poor Dan had to wait in suspense while I opened the wrapped box, but of course I said yes and my ring was absolutely beautiful. 20

OUR SPECIAL DAY We married at St Eustachius church in Tavistock followed by a beautiful reception at the Two Bridges Hotel in Princetown. We wanted our wedding to be bright, fun and tasteful and chose to have a quirky button theme. I thoroughly enjoyed getting crafty by making some DIY button bouquets, this was a fantastic alternative to traditional flowers, which I’m allergic to. www.alwaysandforevermag.com
Our guests enjoyed the panoramic views across Dartmoor as they were driven to the church and then to the reception venue in a wonderful London Routemaster bus. We tucked into a very tasty carvery at the hotel followed by a delicious hog roast in the evening and my talented sister made our scrumptious chocolate and vanilla cake, which had an edible button ball gracing the top. 21
MORE DIY We put together our own DIY photo booth, we set up a table with a polaroid camera and a variety of props including silly wigs, funky glasses and colourful hats. Everyone commented on how it was such a clever, entertaining idea.
FUNNIEST MOMENT The funniest moment was when my mum stepped up to do her reading in the church and her hat was so large it bumped into the microphone - it certainly got everyone’s attention!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS There were so many unforgettable moments, such as when my dad first saw me in my wedding dress, his eyes proudly lit up and then filled with tears. The amazing choir from the school that I work at sang as I made my way down the aisle, I will always remember how magical it was! The best men’s speech had everyone laughing and crying. We were in hysterics when they decribed us as ‘pure and simple’ me being pure and Dan being simple, of course!

The most precious moment however has to be when I saw Dan gaze at me as I walked towards him. I was completely composed all morning, but when Dan told me how beautiful I looked, my emotions just came flooding out! Being declared as husband and wife was the best feeling in the world. Knowing that I am spending the rest of my life with someone who I love so dearly makes everything complete.

FIRST DANCE We hired the amazing band - Hot Candy, who certainly delivered on the night. For our first dance as newly weds, they belted out the hit Michael Jackson song - the way you make me feel. HONEYMOON We had the most amazing time soaking up the sun on white sandy beaches in the Dominican Republic and even swam with dolphins!
