I like!

I’ve been invited to a party in another continent. I can’t participate, but I press the likebutton nevertheless, happy that somebody still remembers me there somewhere. The freezing temperature reminds us that the importance of a pair of woolen socks can’t be underestimated, even when traveling. But I still like the red cheeks and colorful woolen socks, because summer is already waiting for us. Just moments after the selection day in Maailmanvaihto of ice I think how great it is to participate to sending new volunteers into the world. After some interviews I got a feeling about you, volunteer-to-be; when you come back, different from when you left, telling about how you discovered things and how all that was the best thing ever. Those are the words worth waiting for, the ones that reward also the interviewer. With a bit of jealousy I guide you to the door leading to adventures, and you will use the opportunity as you think is best. And when you return with your bag full of memories, I’ll remember my own moments out there. All those happy eyes, stories, even troubles remind of the reason why we keep doing this. Shared joy is a double joy. I like! Big emotions, an endless number of stories. That’s what volunteering abroad is made of. I wish you a wonderful year 2012 and enjoyable reading moments with the MaailmanVaihtoa Volunteers’ Voices magazine. Liisa Veikkolainen, Chairperson, Maailmanvaihto ry 2012
