School of the Holy Child A Tradition of Giving

Wisdom • Confidence • Friendship

Wisdom

Fundraising and Charitable Giving at Holy Child School of the Holy Child relies on the generosity of parents, trustees, alumnae, parents of alumnae, grandparents, faculty, staff, friends, and the Society to defray daily operating expenses, sustain financial stability, and make capital improvements possible. It is our hope that you will make Holy Child your philanthropic priority. Your support ensures that Holy Child students continue to receive an excellent, well-rounded education—without compromise—and that an enriching, enlightening and safe learning environment is provided for the students of today and tomorrow.

What is the Annual Fund? The Annual Fund advances every aspect of the school, supporting our mission to educate “women of conscience and action.” Contributions have a direct impact on students, faculty and all facets of our program, affecting the academic, artistic, athletic and technological life of the school. These unrestricted funds are essential to a Holy Child education and make it possible for us to offer our students and teachers the finest programs and resources available.

How does it work? Because tuition alone does not cover the full cost of a Holy Child education, every family is asked to participate in the Annual Fund. Additionally, support from former parents, trustees, alumnae, and other friends of Holy Child is essential to the Annual Fund. The Annual Fund supports financial aid, technology, visual and performing arts, athletics, facilities, and faculty & staff. A gift to the Annual Fund is a gift to the whole school—the people, the programs, and the place! Programs the Annual Fund has supported include: ∙ The launch of the Middle School iPad program ∙ The Seventh Grade Cape Cod Marine Biology trip ∙ The Gryphon Players’ production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat ∙ The implementation of a strength and conditioning program in the new Giordano Fitness Center

How do I give? Holy Child welcomes gifts in the form of checks or online at www.holychildrye.org/Give. Additionally, we accept stocks of marketable securities, real estate, and life insurance. “Generosity, generosity, generosity, must be the beginning and end of our lives.” ~Cornelia Connelly

Confidence Why should I give?

As a member of the Holy Child community, you see first-hand how our school touches the lives of our students today and how we are empowering the future leaders of tomorrow. Giving to Holy Child presents the rare opportunity to see your generosity in action, significantly and immediately. Your participation sends a clear message to other donors, including foundations, that our community is charitable and cares about the future of our school.

How much should I give? At School of the Holy Child the remaining operating cost per student after tuition is $3,200. While individual financial situations vary and giving is a personal decision, the school relies on generous donations to provide all of our students with a Holy Child education. Annual Fund donations vary in amount up to $25,000. Each and every gift is important.

Should volunteers who contribute their time also support the Annual Fund? We aim for 100% participation in the Annual Fund. We are truly grateful to volunteers at Holy Child, as they are integral to the success of our school, and we ask that they support the Annual Fund. “This is a place where girls don’t get lost. In fact they are discovered. This is a school that is not about the girls. It is the girls.” ~Peggy Parlatore Kelly ’ 77

Restricted Giving Independent schools depend on restricted gifts to provide financial support for specific purposes that range from financial aid and merit scholarship funds to capital projects that fund renovations, expansions, and the construction of new facilities. These contributions are generally pledged over three to five years.

Should I give to the Annual Fund and make Restricted Gifts? At Holy Child we believe in inclusive fundraising; therefore, we ask all of our supporters to participate in all areas of our fundraising program. At critical points in the growth of the school, the Board of Trustees will vote to initiate a capital campaign, and all members of the community will be asked to support the effort.

Corporate Matching Gifts Program Many companies will match charitable gifts to independent schools. Your employer’s personnel or human resources department can provide you with the required forms. These dollars are essential to reaching Holy Child’s fundraising goals and providing increased corporate exposure for the school. We greatly appreciate the extra steps involved in procuring these gifts.

Friendship Holy Child Annual Gala & Auction, Library Luncheon, and Alumnae Reunion Holy Child hosts a number of fun events every year to bring together parents, trustees, alumnae, parents of alumnae, grandparents, friends, faculty, staff, and many others who support Holy Child. Our Annual Gala & Auction is our signature annual fundraising event. Along with the Annual Fund, proceeds from this special event significantly contribute to the success of our school. They strengthen our community and inspire us to “sustain a bright and joyful spirit.”

Planned Giving A planned gift to Holy Child supports the school, secures the financial needs of your loved ones, and provides tax benefits for you. You may make a current planned gift, such as giving stock to the Annual Fund, or a deferred planned gift. Deferred planned gifts include establishing a trust or annuity; giving stock, real estate, or life insurance; naming the school as a beneficiary of your pension plan; or remembering Holy Child in your will. Donors are encouraged to consult their tax planners or attorneys, as well as Holy Child’s Office of Institutional Advancement, so that proper vesting language is used to ensure the funds go to our school.

“This school is my family. We are artists, athletes, comedians, dancers, musicians, and writers. If we had not come to Holy Child, we would never have met each other. Thank you for being my friends and my sisters.” ~Kayla Williams ’16, Student Government President
