Select contents of Fasnadarach, A Scottish Country House, Royal Deeside Perched dramatically in an elevated position on the south bank of the River Dee, Fasnadarach is a commanding Grade II listed Victorian country house. Completed in 1874, it was built as the fishing lodge for the Glen Tanar Estate, and designed by George Truefitt who designed many of the estate buildings. The house eschews the Scots Baronial taste, and is instead a meandering confection of gables, overhanging eaves, and chimneys. Fasnadarach was commissioned by Sir William Cunliffe Brooks, father-in-law of the 11th Marquis of Huntly, who married Sir William’s daughter in 1869. The house is designed to give full appreciation to its setting, with the series of reception rooms on the ground floor, and bedrooms on the first, that offer views up and down the Dee and on to the Cairngorms. The most recent owners, who are only the third family to call Fasnadarach home, filled it with an eclectic mix of British and European furniture, ceramics, and works of art, all displayed in the elegant surroundings. They are offered for sale with the hope they will go to new homes where they will be appreciated by a new generation of collectors.
