ince its inception, Quigley Agricultural Contractors has grown to become a leader in its chosen areas of expertise. Irish Tractor & Agri caught up with Francis Quigley to find out what the Kildarebased Contractors have been up to lately. Agri Contracting is one of those businesses which would tend to run in the family, particularly in Ireland, and for Francis Quigley, it is a line of work that he has been involved in since his youth.
“We are based here at New Road, Kildangan in Co Kildare,” explained Francis. “I started working with my father back at a very early age. We did a lot of mowing, baling and corn cutting back then. At that time we had a Claas Super Junior

Combine, bought in J.R. Perry's, Athy. As things got busier we changed from the trailed machine to a Self Propelled Senator 80. This was a huge upgrade. “In the late 1960's we started cutting silage with a Kidd double chop machine driven by a Massey 175 tractor. Looking back on this today, it was a very slow process and purchasing the new Ford 7000, which had only come on the market made a massive difference to output then. “As work progressed we advanced to a Self Propelled Harvester in 1976, buying our first new Claas Self Propelled machine, the SF 80 from Mr.John Perry in J.R. Perry's Athy. This machine gave good service but unfortunately was destroyed by fire in July 1979. We changed to New Holland for a number of years but have Claas machines for over 20 years now.”
Today Quigley Agricultural Contractors is very much a family run concern. Francis and his two sons, Michael and John have developed the contracting over the years and Francis wife, Marie looks after the accounts. Michael is largely responsible for looking after most customers and John gets very involved during the Silage and Harvest
