Callanan Couriers is a family run business

People like to be able to count on same-day delivery. “When you dial our number you get either me or Michael on the phone, not some answering machine, a personal touch goes a long way.” Which is more important – service or price? According to Michael: “The service is very important, but so is price. You have to look at both. We enjoy a lot of repeat business and that has been instrumental in the growth of the business. When you provide a good service, people are prepared to pay for it. But they like to get a good price, too, and you have to make sure you are offering your customers value for money. We find we are very reasonable for the service we provide” Callanan Couriers deliver a lot of parts to garages and motor factors, local farmers and an array of industries – people who need to get their deliveries as soon as possible, be it a pallet of paper or a part for a machine. They also deliver bloods to hospitals and, needless to say, you have to handle this kind of consignment with extreme care. All the drivers are ADR compliant which is required. “That’s the approach we’ve always had, no matter what the product is. Since the business started out we are
confident of saying that no goods or parcels have ever been mislaid or damaged upon delivery and we are proud of that fact “We also handle a lot of valuable items, fragile pieces and furniture so we have to be careful with these deliveries. Once you treat every delivery with the utmost care, then you won’t go too far wrong. “On top of that, we would never overcharge or be greedy. We value our customers and we look after them as best we can. We are very reasonable with our rates and we value the customers who do a lot of work with us and that’s the reason we feel we get repeat business off them” All things considered, Don Callanan is optimistic about the future prospects of the company: “I’m confident we can continue to grow the business. We’ve been very busy since purchasing the two trucks last year and I see room there for further expansion and improvement. At the moment we are building a new office at our HQ in Ballyfoyle and we also hope to increase our warehouse facilities, so I can only see us moving upwards. “We have very good customers and we are very thankful for that – without them, we’d have nothing and that’s something we always bear in mind.”
