duo O’Sullivan and Garvey got one each. The pick of those points were a magnificent long range free from Regan and a beautiful score from play by O’Sullivan who, along with Garvey, went on to become a huge influence in the second half. O’Sullivan’s goal arrived two minutes after the restart when he touched a Durnin delivery to the net and with a 1-8 to 0-7 advantage Kiltale were in pole position. Regan (three), O’Sullivan (two) and Garvey points left them clear by 1-14 to 0-11 with five minutes of normal time remaining, but Killyon hit back with points from Padraig McKeown, Massey and David Raleigh. It set up a tense finish, but Kiltale held out and it was a joyous scene when captain Padraig Donoghue received the Jubilee Cup. Garvey was a worthy winner of the man of the match award. This team can proudly take its place alongside the others which have previously brought the biggest prize in Meath hurling to the club in 1982, 1983 and 2007. And there could be more to follow as that wonderful work dedicated to the under-age ranks in the club continues to reap rich rewards. The Kiltale team in the final was: S McGann; A Donnelly, P Donoghue, C Ennis; A Forde, W Mahady, D Donoghue; J Kelly, P Garvey (0-2); J Donoghue, S Donoghue (0-2), M O’Sullivan (1-3); I Douglas, P Durnin, J Regan (0-7),. Subs – C McCabe for Douglas, E Ryan for Mahady.
JUNIORS SET THE PERFECT EXAMPLE Kiltale’s second string had kept their part of the bargain when they
completed a highly impressive campaign by defeating Boardsmill in the Junior Championship final at Trim. They went through the qualification campaign with a 100 per cent success rate, including wide margin victories over Moylagh and Rathmolyon, and finished the job with a 2-16 to 2-6 victory over the ‘Mill in the final. When the teams met in an earlier group match the margin was only two points, but on the day that mattered most Kiltale were totally dominant. PJ Walsh top scored with 1-5 and TJ Lynch, William Harnan, Cathal Sheridan, Padraig Kelly and Stephen White were other key performers. Walsh got the goal which helped Kiltale to lead by 1-9 to 0-5 at the interval and they pushed on to be clear by 1-13 to 0-5 early in the second half. Battling Boardsmill hit back with goals from Cathal Flattery and Alan Ashe, but Kiltale were in cruise control and Kevin Ryan got their second goal near the end to leave them 10 points clear when the last whistle sounded. The honour of captaining the victorious team went to Alan Donnelly. It was a victory which gave the club the perfect boost ahead of the senior final against Killyon. The Kiltale team in the final was: O Regan; TJ Lynch (0-1), C Sheridan, D Kane; J Carey, W Harnan, A Donnelly; P Kelly (0-4), A Brien; S Ryan, B Dixon (0-1), A Farrelly (0-1); PJ Walsh (1-5), S White (0-2), K Ryan (1-1). Subs – E Ryan (0-1) for Brien, C Reilly for S Ryan, S Carroll for Donnelly, R Ryan for Walsh, T Kane for Farrelly.

MINOR TITLE ANOTHER SUCCESS STORY The future for Kiltale looks bright after they gained a hard earned 4-15 to 4-9 victory over Killyon/Longwood in the MHL Division 1 final at Trim in early September. The teams agreed to line out without their county minor footballers which meant Cillian O’Sullivan (Kiltale) and Adam Flanagan (Killyon/Longwood) were notable absentees and it was the combined side which made the better start when Stefan Kelly goaled. But Kiltale were ahead by 1-3 to 1-0 after 10 minutes following points from Jack Regan (two) and Eamonn Ryan and a Ross Ryan goal. Boosted by a Stephen King goal Killyon/Longwood cut the deficit to the minimum, but with Ross Ryan and Conor Sheeran finding the net Kiltale pushed into a 3-5 to 2-1 advantage. The interval lead stood at 3-6 to 2-5 and with Ross Ryan completing his hat-trick of goals it was 4-13 to 2-8 at the three-quarter stage. Killyon/Longwood battled courageously and were rewarded with two Kelly goals, but Kiltale had done enough to secure the title and captain Eamonn Ryan received the MHL Shield. Kiltale – R Ryan; K Ryan (0-1), J Regan (0-7), M Foy; D Brannigan, C Reilly, S McNally; E Ryan (0-2), E Walsh; I Hughes (0-1), F McCabe (01), D Schilder; C Sheeran (1-1), R Hennessy, R Ryan (3-2).
