victory over Navan O’Mahonys in the final played at Kiltale. O’Mahonys went into the game as favourites, having won the Division 2 League earlier in the year and they took an early lead with the first two points. However, Duleek/Bellewstown, who had overcame Blackhall Gaels at the semi-final stage settled with points from Alex Goodman, Orla Byrne and Rachel Andrews enabling them to go ahead. After the Navan side regained the advantage for a spell, the east Meath side rallied to lead by 0-6 to 0-4 at the break following scores from the outstanding Alex Goodman (two) and Byrne. Then there was little between the teams for much of the second period. Leanne Woods netted the game’s only goal from a penalty kick to leave her side four points to the good. O’Mahonys hit back to reduce the arrears to the minimum and could have gone ahead but for two fine saves by Monica McGuirk. Shauna Leech and Debbie Maughan made their presence felt after coming on as substitutes. Shannon Clarke and Roisin Lenehan enjoyed dominant spells at midfield while Katie Dowling did well as a roving corner-forward. The half-back trio of Hazel Callaghan, Kate Byrne and Kim Saurin also made valuable contributions to the success. Duleek / Bellewstown finished strongly with four unanswered points, from Goodman, Woods (two) and Andrews. Goodman picked up the ‘player of the match’ accolade and winning captain Natasha Barnett was presented with the Brian McKeown Cup by county chairperson Aisling Clery.
